Cyst question

I had an ovarian cyst removed last June from my right ovary.It was benign. I am 51 yrs old. Just this week it seems I have another cyst in my remaining ovary, size 4.4cm. My question is has anyone heard of a cyst of that size going away after a cycle or two. Should I have been put on birth control pills to avoid this occurance.What are the ramifications if living with a cyst of that size if benign and for how long? I am wondering if the chances of being near menopause helps my situation. I am certainly not anxious to have another surgery.

the pathology report reads follicular cyst and corpus luteal cyst.
