Cysts after menopause again

by milliron, Apr 24, 2007 12:00AM
51 years old,  20 plus year history of cysts.....Had a 8-9 cm septated.cyst and right ovary removed last July.  Pathology OK. No periods since June 06 and OBGYN said blood test showed menopause...Started having symtoms again and in October an ultrasound showed a 4-5 cm septated cyst on Left ovary...a repeat ultrasound in late December showed it still there.  Doctor suggested a recheck in 6 months.  I am still having most of the symptoms that I have come to know and hate.  :Should I push to have the ultrasound sooner?  Are cysts common after menopause?  Should I be concerned?

Thanks Robin

Dear Robin,
if you have a cyst that is giving you pain, it is reasonable to consider removing that other ovary. If it is not bothering you and is not growing, it is reasonable to just recheck in 3 to 6 months. Benign cysts are common on postmenopausal ovaries.
best wishes
