Cysts on both overies, Severe Pain, Age-36

My wife is suffering from overian cysts (two on each side, size 2.5 cm) for the last 8 months. She is 36.  It causes her severe pain and cramps in lower abdomen and lower back and vomiting during periods.  Doctors are of the view that overies as well as uterus will have to remove during surgery. We are much worried as she is only 36 years old. Please guide.

I agree with Angie. Def. ask you doc.

I am 37 and recently had a large cyst on an ovary. When I was in surgery they found that it was a chocolate cyst and that I have endometriosis (big surprise). Endo can cause the symptoms your wife is experiencing and sometimes when it is severe doctors recommend a hysterectomy. Based only on what you shared I would ask for the surgery to be exploratory (laproscopic- minimally invasive- I had this) and have a plan about what you want done depending on what they find. With my surgery, they went in with the idea that they would remove the cyst but if they found something more serious (cancer) we talked about what I would want done and they would come out tell my husband and then go back in and do what we had talked about, in my case could have been removal of one or both ovaries, removal of my uterus. In may case I didn't end up having anything removed.

Ask a lot of questions and if they don't answer all of your questions, get a second opinion. Good luck!

Hi, I think you need to be asking the doctor more questions as to why such aggressive surgery is reccomended ? Has she a history of presistant cysts ? does she have endometriosis?. You really should ask as many questions as you need to find out the reasons for the surgery suggested. Keep us posted Angie
