Deandra's Obit

Deandra Trevino-SalemPosted: 07/23/2010 01:00:00 AM MDT

Deandra Trevino-Salem passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2010 in the loving arms of her husband, Luke Salem while surrounded by her family and Teresa Staver .  She was the beautiful daughter of Rich and Norma Trevino. Luke was the love of Deandra’s life, and they were married on June 20, 2009 in Hawaii.  Some of Deandra’s best memories were their walks on the beach, gazing out at the ocean, and swimming with the sea turtles.  Soon after Deandra and Luke met, they took a romantic trip to New York City for the New Year’s Day celebration.  While there, they rode in horse drawn carriages, walked along the exciting streets, and watched the ball drop at midnight from their hotel.  This trip sealed their love for traveling, and they experienced many more trips, creating beautiful memories.  These trips and memories strengthened Deandra during her illness.  For three years, she faced her challenge of ovarian cancer with courage, determination, and optimism.  She taught her family and friends the true beauty and meaning of life.  She wanted to be remembered as a strong-willed and independent woman who engaged life with enthusiasm.  Deandra was the co-owner and operator of the West End Salon in Boulder.  Deandra and Luke shared many blessings and a lifetime of friendship and love in their short time together.  She encouraged all who knew her to live life as much as possible because there are no guarantees of time.  Deandra touched not only her family and friends but hundreds of people who read her facebook and followed her story of courage and life faithfully.  Her physical presence on earth will be greatly missed, but her spirit will continue to strengthen and live in us all.

Deandra was preceded in death by grandfathers Rogelio Trevino and John Estrada.  She is survived by her husband Luke Salem and her parents Richard & Norma Trevino and siblings Eric & Alisha Trevino.
There will be a Mass on July 24, 2010 at 12:00 to celebrate her life at St Martin De Porres Catholic Church, 3300 Table Mesa Dr., Boulder, CO 80305.  After the celebration, there will be a reception in her honor at the church.  Memorial donations may be made to the Deandra Trevino Memorial Fund at Wells Fargo.

A few words from Deandra’s husband Luke about those closest to Deandra:

Norma - devoted and obsessed with the care of her daughter, in my opinion Norma was a caretaker, mother and saint.  Deandra face could twitch a certain way and Norma would know exactly what she needed.

Rich - The majority of those who knew Deandra would say that Luke was the number #1 man in her life, but to those closest to Deandra, Luke included, would argue that no man would ever get in between the bond shared by Deandra and her adoring father Rich. Rich a successful Real Estate Agent of 29 years and no nonsense demeanor would immediately melt away in matters involving his 1st born daughter.  Deandra looked to her father for advice and support in matters involving her salon, and just about any other dilemma, roadblock, problem...all in all whatever she needed - her dad was her go to guy & was instrumental in helping her dream of being a successful salon owner come true.

Eric - whenever Eric walked into the room, it would brighten Deandra’s day with his lighthearted humor, never ending funny stories and his commitment to making sure she had a vanilla malt every day.

Alisha – Deandra’s admiring younger sister and maid of honor.  The two sisters would spend hours discussing the latest fashions, movies, gossip.
