Dermoid rupture

Hello everyone, i am posting about my neice. She is only 13 and it appears she had a dermoid cyst. She had extreem pain and went to the er where they did a CT and said she had fluid and though it was a cyst. Not sure if they saw teeth/hair. Since then her belly has swollen up huge and she is in pain and having vomiting. They did a ultrasound and i think that is when they said it was a dermoid cyst.
However, they just sent her home. Is it possible to become toxic from it rupturing? I know that they must bag the contents when they surgiclly remove it. What should she do now? Her mom does want to subject her to a gyn, but i say its a must???

I agree.  If she hasn't already, she does need to see a gyn.  I had a dermoid cyst removed in March.  They do not resolve themselves.  My dr removed mine asap since she did not want it to rupture, since it was so large.  I'm very surprised the dr in the e/r just sent your niece home.  Get her to an gyn as soon as you can.

She needs to see a gyn.  Dermoids do not resolve and if they do rupture (very rare) there would be a lot of junk floating around.  Please, please get her to a gyn. or even better a gyn/onc.  Dermoids are benign, however they do need to be surgically removed.  Godspeed
