Detection

Hi, my mother was diagnosed on 9/20/07 with stage IV ovarian cancer.  It spread throughout her abdomen and to the liver and other organs.  My question is, she had a colonoscopy at the end of June 2007.  Could any signs of the cancer been detected from the colonoscopy? Thanks.

Ovarian cancer spreads on the outside of the colon, not the inside.  It could be detected if it were pushing in obstructing the colon from the outside.  I had my colonoscopy and had 4 seeds of OVCA on the outside of the colon at the time, didn't know it, for another couple of months.  So, I believe only if one was obstructing would it be detected.  Sorry about your mom

I can only answer for me.  I had a colonoscopy 1 week before I was diagnosed with stage IV this April... problem is colonoscopy only sees inside where mine had not spread, one of my tumors was wrapped around the colon and the stomach wall etc....
