Diverticulitis showed on today's scan

Well, I went for my 3 month CT scan today (2nd after beginning chemo in June and 1st after beginning maintenance in October) I was blessed to get good news-NED!  Naturally I was thrilled; but I had been having "vague" symptoms for about a week (i.e. pelvic pressure on lower left side, rectal pressure and a little bit of gas, accompanied with some constipation)  If I didn't know better, I would have thought I was ovulating as the feeling was very similar.  So, when I saw my Onc. nurse today she suggested that I stop in to see my onc. surgeon to see if she could see me.  She was not there, but I was seen and examined by her Physician Assistant. I thought I was going to fly off the table when she examined me (both vaginally and rectally); it was agonizing!  She said she thought she felt "something". Late this afternoon the PA called to tell me that my CT scan came back without any trace of cancer but that "something" was a large area of inflammation that showed up as diverticulitis in the sigmoid colon - exact spot where discomfort is. She put me on Cipro and Flagel (sp?) for 10 days. Has anyone out there had a situation like this?I guess my CA 125 will be way out of whack on Tues.when they do blood work, and I'm wondering if they will still allow me to take my treatment on that day.  Anyone with any input, please respond as I am worried and would appreciate advice/suggestions.I see my Oncologist on Monday, and she will answer some of these questions, but I need to hear from someone who may have had a first hand experience.  Thanks & God Bless...Judie

diverticulum are outpouchings in the intestine, that digestive food products get trapped in and can cause inflammation.  When that occurs it is called Diverticulitis.  Did they tell you to eat a low fiber diet?  Not difficult when one is on chemo, I only wanted bland, slippery food.  When the symptoms resolve, you can gradually introduce fiber again.  I don't know about holding the chemo.

Hi,
I'm anxious to hear how you are now.  I have been and am still experiencing the same symptoms as you - pelvic presure, rectal pressure ---- I've also had many painfully agonizing vaginal exams and others including a vaginal ultrasound, c.t. with dye, and a laparoscopy.  I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis and am scheduled for a colonoscopy at the end of this month.   I would love to hear how you've been this last year since it seems we're in the same boat!  Hope you are much improved!
