Dose Reduction

I am currently on my 4th round of chemo - allergic to platnum drugs, using Taxotere and Avastin.  I have had severe side effects and lost 27 lbs in 2 1/2 months, and also had WBC of .5 with ileus landing me in the hospital for 6 days.  The 2nd treatment my Onc reduced Taxotere by 20%, then third treatment reduced by 20%, now 4th treatment by 25%.  Question is was this cumulative as the 1st 20% made it a total of 80% given, then another 20% made it 64% given, and 25% reduction made it a total of 48% given from the original 100%.   Or was it simply 20% (80% of the original) the 1st 2 treatments, then 25% less (75% of the original)?
Thanks for your time!

It was probably 20% of the original, then 25% of the original. But the only way to be sure is to ask your doctor.

It's also possible for some people to be desensitized to platinum based drugs, but you must work with an allergist and slow the infusion drastically...such as over the course of a few days in the hospital. Of course you don't want to go through that if other drugs are working, but if it comes down to it, its something to keep in your back pocket about which to discuss with your doctor.

Best Wishes,
Gail
