Doxil question

Doxil question

I had my 1st Doxil on May 1 - due for 2nd on May 30.  I know my CA125 has gone up since May 1st and I have had my abdomen tapped
twice and my lung tpped once since then.  Can those of you who have  gone the Doxil route tell me of your experience with it. One of the residents at the hospital told me not to look at the ca124 because Doxil takes longer to work.  HOW MANY TIMES WILL THEY GIVE IT To ME BEFORE THEY WOULD DECIDE IT IS NOT WORKING?  Jatoo said that Melody is getting Gemzar and Avastin and it seems to be working well for her.  Got rid of the ascities and ca125 went down.  Should I give it a while to work or ask about anoher chemo.

Hello Annie.... If you go back to some of the previous pages of this Forum you will find lots of info on Doxil, as this has been raise on a few other occasions. Don't look for results too soon with it though.. it takes at least 2 treatments before you see good results. Best of luck....Helmar...

Sorry to hear about all you are going through.  If you scroll down this page plady has posted a note to Jatoo and he has talked about other opinions.  Thoughts and prayers are with you.  Is your next doxil next week?

Dear Annie:

Sorry for this tapping. I know how it is. When she had her first bout of ascites after her first recurrence some 3 to 4 months after the CarboTaxol in 2005 (making her platinum-resistant), we hardly knew what to do with the bulging stomach. We enrolled in the Telcyta clinical trial just to be randomly chosen to be in the Doxil arm. It was a blessing because there was no need for tapping because she responded excellently. Her CA 125 went down to normal range like 18 by the second treatment. By the 5th treatment her tumors were almost all gone (just a thin film strip). But eventually the tumors became resistant. So we are in our present treatment.

Please tell us again your history since I think you have so many options. If you go to the medical side of this forum in the archives, Dr. Goodman said, time and time again, that Avastin is good in removing ascites.

I pray that Doxil will work for you and please pray for my wife.

Jatoo,

I had surgery May 31, 2006 and was diagnosed with 3C primary periotoneal version of this nasty thing.  Completed carbo/taxol the end of October.  CA 125 at  5.  In Jan Ca125 was up and at that point I went to the U of M for a second opinion and ended up changing Dr.  Pet/CT did not show anything so we decided to wait for a while.  Ca125 continued rising so I started topotecan/thalidomide.  5days - every 3 weeks.  After 2 1/2 sessions of this she discontinued it because #s had continued to go up.  Had 1st session of Doxil on May 1.  #s are still going up and have had abdomen and right lung
both tapped twince in the last 2 1/2 weeks.  I saw Dr yesterday morn and she said when she came in she had planned to change me over to Gemzar/  Cisplatin but decided to give Doxil one more try if I was willing.  Will have that Tues. of next week.  CA125 was up to 5,000 something at last check.
When I got the original carbo/taxol I was in an Avastin trial but they took me off of it when #s started going up.  I think I was in the group that was getting the placebo.

Over all, I am still feeling OK.  When the lung fills up it does slow me down a bit, but I am still working.  Planning to retire in the next month so I am looking forward to that.  Have to get everything straightened out with my husband's insurance before I make the big move.
