How about drinking some green, ginger or sage teas and Ensure. When ever you can, munch on some fresh veggies and fruit. High calorie/sugar free things for a few days. You need to boost your energy levels. Even with no appitite, you need to feed the system.

Although it is different for everyone, Doxil was one of the easiest chemo my wife had. Except for the lowering of counts, which can be corrected by Neupogen and Procrit, and mouth ulcer which can also be rinsed by a mouth wash concocted by her hospital, this drug is highly tolerable.

It also shrunk her 3 CM tumor to a thin film. She was on it for five(5) months so it was a big help.

Was Melody's cancer epithelial?  Is Doxil useful for recurrances and slow growing tumours?  Do you think the success was due to the small size of the tumour?

Hello. Her's is epithelial and I don't consider 3 Cm X 3 Cm at that time as small. Doxil is second line for OvCA recurrences. As to other kinds of slow-growing tumors, I hardly have not made any research, probably the Mullerian Inhibiting Substance (MIS) as the closest and I think MD Anderson has or had a clinical trial.

My understanding of a treatment's effectiveness is doing the right kind of research to find a cure that has done well with that kind of tumor. It is just plain common sense. Now since there is not so much information on highly effective drugs, the need to go into clinical trials for cure arises. I hope this helps.

Hello there - although I know Doxil (Caelyx here in the UK) is reputed to be easier than others in terms of side effects, I didn't find it so easy as all that.  I was very very tired for around two thirds of each 4 week cycle, had minor but irritating stuff like teeth aching, throat soreness, skin rashes etc, but also I was very depressed most of the time.  Although this could have been caused by the fact it wasn't being effective I do feel the drug was a depressant itself.  I probably should have accessed an anti-depressant from my GP to help.  Hope it improves for you - it does for many women.  Good luck, Jenny

Hi -- I had carbo/taxol originally and for a recurrence and now am having Doxil because I have apparantly become platin resistant.  I am tired almost the entire month and have really severe skin toxicity (my doctor said he's never seen it so bad) -- I've beaten the PPE by keeping ice packs on my wrists and ankles during the infusion but the blisters are all over the place on the rest of me.  It's interesting to see that people are depressed from this med -- I am on an antidepressent (went on it when I knew the ovarian cancer was coming back again) but after three cycles of Doxil I felt as depressed as I did before I started the med.....Is there any documentation other than all these posts that lists depression as a side effect of Doxil?  Also, my doctor told me this would be a gentle chemo compared to the Carbo/Taxol and it is much worse because the side effects never go away and then I get hit again with the next round of chemo.....
Thanks and good luck

I wouldn't expect to get any kind of answer from Steph, she died in Dec., which is why it is a lousy idea to bring up old posts.  If you have something to say you might want to do a new post because this most likely will not be answered.
