Doxil

My Dr. told me that the reason Doxil is not used for 1st line, is that it proved to do no better than the usual Carbo/Taxol. I said "oh, so because it does just as good but not better, it isn't used? - Gee, I know amount a zillion women who would love to have Doxil & not lose their hair or be sick like from the Carb0/Taxol.

I have seem a few explanations of this.. sometimes it is hard to relay this information to a newly diagnosed patient though...

The explanation seems to be that Carbo/Taxol has the best response combined with the shortest recovery period. Why is this important? If this treatment does not work for you, you need to be able to go to another treatment as soon as possible after your first treatment has finished. With other drugs such as Doxil, Topotecan, Etoposide, Gemcitabine may have similar response rates but they can lead to longer periods between treatments if they don't work. Hair-loss is rarely considered as a treatment affecting side effect.
