Elevataed ca125

by goldfiber, Dec 15, 2004 12:00AM
has anyone had an elevated ca125 due to other factors.  I have been in remission or ovca for 3 months.  my three month check up revealed 98, followed two days later with 114.  cat scan and MRI show all is normal.  I am scheduled for a PET scan.  My Doctor says that the ca125 test can be elevated for other reasons like having a cold or virus.  Any comments.

Many factors can elevate a persons CA125.  Mine was sligltly elevated at 99.  Endometriosis (+ endometrioma cyst) was the culprit for me.  Your menstrual cycle can also elevate it as well as many types of virus'.  I would imagine there was a reason to order the test.  Are you having symptoms, family history?

Although 98 and 114 are elevated, the numbers are considered "slightly" elevated (I have heard of elevation in the 3000-4000 range and if there is an issue going on it is most likly in the beginning stage.  If you are still questioning your numbers and reasons, call your MD back with a list of questions.

Good luck....
