Elevated CA125 Results

Hi everyone. I posted last week about having a transvaginal u/s where a solid lesion (2cm) was found in my right ovary. It does have bloodflow and is solid, but my doctor told me it is not suggestive of cancer. No fluid in the pelvis, uterus was slightly thickened (i was ovulating) and the left ovary was fine. He ordered a CA125 test for me while I am waiting to get into the GYN. My results came back at 63. I know that is not super high, but the fact that it's high at all is what is freaking me out. I have an appt with a gyn/onc this week, but I am just terrified. I did have my period when I had the blood test, and I know there are a bunch of things that can cause false positives with this test. I guess I'm just looking for any stories people have where they had elevated CA125 but no cancer. I do know that there is a big possibility that I do have cancer.........but I'm only 25, no ovarian cancer in the family, and I have a 2 year old.....so I guess I'm just trying to cling onto any hope that I can get.

I can certainly understand your anxieties.  I would be anxious as well.  I think it is great your gyn has referred you to a gyn/oncologist and has done it so quickly.  You are a lucky lady as so many here can tell stories of having to wait for months!
All you can do now is hang in there......love that little 2 year old.....find things to laugh about.
You know, whatever this is, it is great you are already getting a jump on it...look at it that way.  It is what it is and you are dealing with it not running away from it.  You are already ahead in the game.  Please do let us know what you find out....we are here for you.
Peace.

Your CA-125 will be elevated if there is any sort of inflammation in the abdomen. So, it could be the lesion which may or may not be cancer is elevating the CA-125.

My CA-125 was 34 (35 is the top of "normal") when I was diagnosed with stage 1. After almost 3 years, I am fine. The survival rates for ovarian cancer when it is caught at stage 1 is quite good. The problem is that it often isn't found until it has spread. It's good that you are seeing a gyn/onc. (I have no ovarian cancer in my family either, but I'm 64.)

Thanks guys. My Dr. did tell me the radiologist who did the U/S thinks it's a dermoid. Could this cause a rise in CA125 levels also? I am trying to stay positive....but at this point I'm ready to just have the thing removed and biopsied, because I know it is the only way I will know for sure what it is.

I would be stunned if a dermoid couldn't cause an increase in your CA125......a dermoid is good news!  The only way you are going to find out what exactly you are dealing with is by having surgery (done by a gyn/oncologist) and sending a biopsy to pathology.
I look forward to hearing your good news.
Peace and Happy Holidays!
Peace.
