Elevated CA125

Elevated CA125

I posted a question about a month ago.  I have now had major surgery to remove both ovaries.  The left ovary had a 10cm solid mass and my left ovary had a smaller mass.  I was referred to a oncology gynecologist because my CA125 was 440 on first testing. He performed the surgery and did a frozen section during surgery.
It was bening.  He then had both ovaries, masses, and scar tissue from partial hysterectomy 20 years ago sent for additional pathology testing.  That report says that there was no malignancy.  All of this I thought was great news util my OG did another CA125 this week, which was 3 weeks post surgery.  The test came back 85.2.  My OG was not sure why the CA125 is still elevated and recommended that I have another test in a month.  Now I don't know whether to be worried again or not.  Does anyone have a response as to why my CA125 may still be elevated?  Still scared!!

Many things can elevate the CA-125, not just cancer.  That's why the test is used in conjunction with other tests, like the TUS and bimanual pelvic exams.  Surgery itself can elevate the CA-125.  When I had a liver tumor removed my CA was 12 before surgery and 155 following surgery.  It took about 6-8 weeks before it fell into the single digits.
