Enlarged Ovary

Hi there,
I don't know if I am aking in the correct forum.
I am a fit 40 yr old woman
I had a Total abdominal hysterectomy (leaving the ovaries) June 2009.
I had the hyster to remove a large 10cm fibroid in my uterus. I had a major bleed after surgery & had 5 bags of blood. I then had a large haematoma which ruptured and bled through my removed cervix, which put me back in the hospital for a few days.
Since the hyster I have had a 'pressure pain' around my bladder- when i go to the toilet- and sometimes just throughout the day.
I was told this was normal and would take a bit onger to get back to normal because of the complications I had after surgery.
I am still having period like back pain - obviously no more periods.
I have just had an ultrasound 12/02/10 & it has shown my right ovary is a lot larger than my left one.
Left - 2.79 x 1.95 x 3.42 = V 9.76
Right - 4.94 x 3.23 x 4.39 = V 36.70
The bladder seems okay - emptys well.
I'd like to know what this means, I am a little worried.
I won't see my doctor until the 18/02/10 and would like some information on what these findings could mean.
Any information would be appreciated
Thanx, Indigokid

Hi Indigokid

It could be that this is all normal healing. Sometimes, when one has had a complicated postop course, it does take longer to heal. When you have had a very large fibroid, these can press on the bladder. After surgical removal, the bladder can have spasm and discomfort until it gets used to all the extra room  to expand. I have seen women take up to a year after surgery for their bladder to settle down.

You should ask your doctor about the use of bladder antispasmodic mediciation to get symptom relief. I assume you have been checked for a bladder infection?  Bladder infections are common and can cause the symptoms you describe.

Those ovaries are probably normal. At age 40, you will continue to ovulate and have monthly cycles. So you can still have monthly pain , back pressure, and so on around the time of ovulation
best wishes

Hi Annekathryn,
Thank you so much for your answer to my worries.
I have seen my GP, & the U/sound results were that I had a 3.5cm cyst on my ovary, so i will have another U/sound in 4 weeks to see what is happening there.
I am still having pain so I will wait until my year is up & then if I still have a problem I will seek further answers.
Thanx again, Indigokid
