Enlarged Uterus

I have just reurned from my pap test and the doctor was shocked at the size of my enlarged uterus. She said it should be the size of a pear but that mine is almost up to my belly button.I am scheduled for an ultra sound in two weeks,but I am worried about what this could be.How much should I worry? I have heavy bleeding during my periods, but no spotting in between.

Yes,my periods are very painful.They have gotten to the point at night to where I cannot even lay on my stomach without having sharp stabbing pains across my entire lower abdomen. And the flow of my periods are getting rediculously heavy.

Could be fibriods or endometriosis... both of those can cause the enlarged uterus. Both are treatable, so you can breathe now :)
An ultrasound will tell you lots more...

Your concerns sound like mine 6 weeks ago. I was having the same issues and finally went to an OB/GYN. After having several tests which included blood, vaginal ultrasound, biopsy and CT scan it was determined that I was a candidate for surgery. We discussed a procedure called Novasure in which the lining of the uterus is scarred to almost eliminate bleeding. However, this procedure was not guaranteed to work on me as my uterus had a very thick lining. I opted for a hysterectomy which ended up being a total hysterectomy because my ovaries were in bad shape. All's well now and I'm glad I got it taken care of. Good luck!
