Fast Growing Possible Cystic Ovarian Neoplasm

Fast Growing Possible Cystic Ovarian Neoplasm

I have been having LLQ pain for several years and have pursued its diagnosis for some time.

In February I underwent a bilateral laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy at which point many numerous follicular cysts in a "string of pearls" configuration were noted.  The surgeon removed as many cysts as possible.  One large 4 cm cyst could not be completely removed.  The pathology report from this surgery was negative.

Subsequent blood tests showed that I am ovulating and the only hormone that is out of range is testosterone, which is only very slightly elevated.  I also have regular menstrual periods at 33 days apart. Though I have noted that on days of light flow my tampon is completely white on the left half and red on the right half.

After the surgery, I experienced no physical pain and as time progressed I noted that the LLQ pain had subsided as well.  I was hopeful that all was better.

During the first u/s after the surgery the dr. noted that the 4 cm cyst was now 5 cm.  I was sent out for a 2nd u/s and the radiologist confirmed what was then a 6.2 cm mass which appears as though it may be a cystic ovarian neoplasm rather than a complex ovarian cyst.  A CA125 test has been ordered, but not yet undergone.

The gyn. onc. would like to perform a diagnostic lap and possible salpingo-oophorectomy.  I am very wary of allowing such a thing at 24 years of age.  I plan to get a 2nd opinion.

Is there a relationship between polycystic ovaries and ovarian cancer?  Is the ovary so damaged that its removal is warranted?  How much of a concern is ovarian cancer

Thank you.  However, considering the fact that I am said to have polycystic ovaries despite continuing to ovulate, it would seem to me that there would be no protection afforded to me due to my condition.

Also, please inform me more in depth on the reading I have done that indicates that if at any point someone has had any type of benign growth of the ovaries there is an increased risk of ovarian cancer.

Also, what is the significancy of only one half of the endometrium being shed.  Do you believe it is possible that I have had some sort of uterine hyperplasia which has spread to the ovary?
