Feeling Bad

Hello ladies,
I have posted this on another forum as well and was very surprised at the answers I got..they were all so good !!  So now I figured you guys might have some tips for me as well...OK..here goes......This latest chemo is really rough on me.  It kinda scares me a bit as I usually breeze through chemo without any bad side effects.....but this one is just the opposite.  I have totally lost most of my appetite..and if I do start to have a craving or eat a little bit it usually winds up coming out via oral or the other end!!!  4 weeks ago I was 139 lbs, then they drained the massive ascites and I went down to 129....7 days post chemo I'm down to 117lbs.  I look and feel terrible... and the worse part is that my Mom is here for a visit and I never wanted her to see me this sick or looking so bad. I don't want to scare her,she isn't the healthiest  and then there's my sister who normally feels worse that I do on my worse day and I see the fear in her eyes....I am taking phenergan and compazine for the nausea..but it's just not working.    SOOOO any recommendations on nausea and nutrition that I might be able to handle right now???  Thanks ladies..(((hugz)))~~~Joanne

Joanne,
I hate hearing that this has you so down! I do not know about nausea meds as I am still only on ativan and compazine. As far as diet goes, I would eat as bland of foods as possible, and just a little at a time.
You are on navelbine, right? They talked about putting me on that but decided to go with the oral etoposide. Funny thing, I have had a lot more nausea with this than I have ever had. Not to the point of throwing up yet, just real nauseated. Also having a hard time with food. It either does not agree with me or it tastes terrible.
I hope that they find something to work for you soon.
  Love Chris

Thanks for some more excellent remdies and meds.  I have to go to the out-patinet clinic today as my Potassium is low.  I'm so nausea most the time and the potassium pill could choke a horse..I seem to be dry heaving any time I try to swallow any type of med.....so I have to go in for IV...they tell me it's a 6 hour infusion... Hopefully this willl help me feel better.  Thank you all again...(((hugz)))~~~~Joanne

Aloxi & Emend were the most help to me.  I also was given ativan for nausea. It is usually for anxiety, but my first onc prescribed it as an addition to my list of anti-nausea drugs.  I also had Zofran, but to me it was worthless.  I sure hope you feel better soon.  I am sorry you are having a tough time.  Marie

Hey there kid.....I am so sorry you are going through this.....when I was so nauseaus I couldn't keep a pill down, my pharmacist "compounded" a cream I could rub on my wrist and the nausea left immediately giving me an opportunity to take oral meds.....I am certain there are "compounding" pharmacies where you live.....get someone on the phone calling pharmacies until you find one...I hope you find some way to enjoy having your mom there for a visit.  Whether you look good or bad I am certain your mom will worry about you......after all, she is your mom and she loves you!  Take care......
Peace.

Sorry you are having such a rough go of it... PLease have your doctor prescribe emend 3 pills.... and aloxi in your IV.. they are the best although insurance companies don't like paying for it... I lost a lot of weight also and had no appetitie...not vomiting or other just no appetite... I have gained it all back...

Zofran phernegan are useless for most... hope you feel better soon.. Ronni

Hi Joanne,
I can't answer your question but I just want to say that I hope you get some relief from the nausea.  That's a lot of weight to lose in such a short period.  I'm so sorry you are going through this.  = (

Hugs to you,
L

Joanne,
Please notify your doctor about this.  I went thru a similar battle my first month of chemo, thinking it was normal.  It's not!  They can and should help you thru this.
Since changing my chemo anti nauseants to Aloxi and Emend, this issue has been pretty well resolved for me.  I still need compazine from time to time, phenergan and Zofran are virtually useless for me.
Don't hesitate to call for help, that's what your paying the big bucks to your medical professionals for!!
Hugs,
Sharon
