I have had a hysterectomy and my appendix removed, and I didn't have a fever with either. I didn't have a problem with the anesthesia, though, so that could make a difference. If she is running a fever, the last thing she needs is to go home and take a chance on getting worse. The way insurance companies are now, they send people home the minute they can--sometimes before they should. If they are willing to keep her, she most likely really needs to be there, but I know she'd rather go home.
Hi,
I know everyone's situation is different, and it sounds like the fever could be from the absess.
After my hysterectomy and right ovary removal in 2001 and after gall bladder removal and rotator cuff repair surgery, I ran a fever with all those surgeries, and I was told that it is a reaction to the anesthesia, in my case. I also throw up after anesthesia for several days (another reaction) and my blood pressure goes up, yet another reaction. I don't know if it is standard procedure, but I always get antibiotics through IV before and after surgeries.
Good Luck to you and your sister!
Larain
She had a long surgery, and a abscess means there was an infection, which is why they want to watch her temperature. They are concerned that she could go home and need to be re admitted. Make she she is up and walking, and doing her deep breathing exercises, that may help. With health care reimbursement the way it is today, they will not keep her longer than necessary. Good luck to both of you.
