Hi Rhonda... Over here, the nurses at the clinic that I attend for my chemo gave me some special nail polish called 'Revitanail. This stuff is great and I've not had any problems with my nails. Maybe you can get something like this in the U.S. too? This is the third time I've been on Taxotere, so I guess I'm lucky. I hope your nails will soon grow, and you are not experiencing any pain with them. Hugs..Helen...
My Mom had the same thing happen to her, it was so traumatizing for her and for me. It is part of treatment so dont worry but eventualy they will grow back in.
Thanks, gah...I'll try that. And Jan214, it's so nice to be missed! How sweet of you to remember me! Things are going as well as can be expected...one more chemo to go on March 25th! Woo hoo! I'll look in the archives also...
Rhonda
It is one of the harsher side effects of Taxotere, and thankfully, I got off it before my nails fell off completely. It was suggested to me to soak my fingernails in cold water both during the treatment, and as much as I could stand at home, as well. I imagine it is the same concept as putting cold packs on your hands during Doxil treatments. The cold helps slow circulation to the extremeties, therefore slowing the chemo into those areas. I have been off it since the beginning of January. It caused a severe burn-like rash on my hands, so we moved on to something else. My nails still look rough, but they are finally growing.
Good luck. Hope it clears up soon.
Gail
Hey, stranger. Where have you been hiding? Sorry about the fingernail thing. I guess i was lucky. That was one side effect i didn't have. The only one I think. If you go up to the search box and put in: fingernails chemo you will find several posts on this subject. Sorry I couldn't help, but I wanted to say Hi. Haven't seen much of you lately and I hope you are doing okay in spite of the fingernail thing.
