Genetic

Does anybody know if OVCA is genetic?  My mom had a large tumor removed along with a hyterectomy.  SHe is refusing chemo because all her scans are coming back normal.  She needs it for preventative reasons.  She had clear cell carcinoma which is very likely to come back very powerful.  I can't seem to convince her, she knows the consequenses.

Yes OVCA does have a genetic link. There are the BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 tests, but it doesn't necessarily mean you will get OVCA. I think that it would be in your mom's best interest to have chemo with clear cell. Yes.... the color for OVCA is teal. I hope things go well for your mom.

Thanks to you all. My ob/gyn said being on birth control pills will reduce my chances of ovca,  I'm 42 and says i should be checked every 6 months

If you want to find out for certain if you are a BRCA 1 or 2 carrier, you can get a genetic test.  I was diagnosed with OVCA Stage IIIC this year (I'm 43).  My mom was checked and she had BRCA 2 (I have BOTH) so my sisters were all checked.  2 came back clear and 1 is a carrier.  The fact that my mom is 65 and is a carrier who never got cancer shows that just because you carry the gene doesn't mean you'll get cancer.
