Ginger, how is it used and what is the dosage?

BCC
I was searching the internet and came across your support group.  We apparently share an interest.  I lived through a male version of the cure you search for, and give the answer below.  I dedicate my efforts to the memory of my aunt that struggled with ovarian cancer for ten years.  It is time to stop the suffering.

Your sucess stories fighting cancer with ginger are very interesting and and the recent research done that possibly shows that ginger can fight ovarian cancer is also very interesting. I was wondering if you could explain how exactly you discovered ginger as a cure for cancer. I saw above you explained it as accidental but I was hoping you could go into more detail.

                                 Thank you very much

I will certainly check this forum again but just in case my email is ***@****

I appreciate your information about your prostate cancer success with ginger.  I have jsut learned that I have a recurrence of my prostate for the second time so radiation and surgery are out since they have already been done.  Your comments about ginger are most interesting. However, I am unclear about the amount that you suggest as the minimun for a 150# man.  Are you suggesting 4 grams or 40,000mgs? As I do the math for what you related that you took---6 capules four times a day of 500mg = 12,000mg. You suggest that the next time you would take a lower amount, if needed; yet, your comment for the minimun amount for a 150#  man is 40,000mg.  Please help me with this as it is very important as you can appreciate. Thanks for your input.

Hi everyone,

I believe we need as much as possible! We need to consume a lot of spices also. Turmeric is a good supplement. Also mushrooms. You know oncologists want to be safe as far as nothing interfering with chemo. Yes that's very right. But what interferes and what enhances. I certainly believe in supplements, etc. and a very good diet. When you're doing chemo, you have to decide. I certainly urge anyone on chemo to take a sublingual B12. I'm a believer in a good diet when you're on chemo with a multiple, turmeric, ginger, zyflamand, fish oil and Reishi mushrooms. The hospital nutritionish recommended Reishi for me while on chemo. Those are safe. I also see a naturopath. She spends a lot of time with me. She was the one that found I needed more B12 through a nutritional blood test and I'm on chemo now and it has helped tremendously.

BCC: Here's a good article on prostrate that is very well documented with Zyflamend. Also here's a good article on Zyflamend with chemo on ovarian cancer.

I am taking Reishi mushroom and 4000-5000mg of Vitamin C while on chemo.  Have had no side effects from chemo except hairlose. I am starting to believe that Vitamin C is very important in buidling a stron immune system.

Hi there - I don't really notice any side effects provided I drink a lot especially hot water after taking the capsules - otherwise my stomach feels quite hot for a short period.  The amount the original poster (BCC?) had is very large indeed -12,000 mg if I read it correctly.  Much greater than I am having.  Oncols are all different about supplements!  Mine is pretty laid back about it - just tells me to give a list to the pharmacist who looks them all up and gets back to me if she can see any contraindications for mu chemo - not had any so far and I'm taking quite a lot!  I think my oncologist is very sceptical about supplements but too diplomatic to say so!  He's a professor at a London teaching hospital who specialises in ovca so I have quite a lot of faith in him.  They are all wary about new research and procedures until its all gone through real clinical trials and the ginger research is still at a very early stage as yet.  It's very frustrating when you are having recurrences and want to do all you can to save yourself, but science has to be well evidenced to be of use.  Not that it then always works of course!  Jenny

Hello there - I'm interested in your piece on ginger.  Where did you find out about using ginger for cancer?  There has been some recent research on ginger in ovca but this has been in vitro stuff on animals and in lab test tubes directly bringing ginger in contact with cancer cells.  Nothing yet been done on oral use as yet as far as I know.  Having said that, I've been taking ginger capsules for some time under direction from my naturopathic doctor - approx 2,160 mg a day via 120 mg capsules.  I'm having chemo as well - he sees the ginger as complementing the chemo drug - I note your comment on this.

Tell me how the ginger affects you.  Do you have any of these side effects that BBC mentioned. Daughters capsules are 500mg  bottle say 1 cap 2 times per day. We are very interested in this. She drinks the tea and eats the snaps  but the caps would be a stronger sorce.  Her onoco/surgeon  at Mayo said definitly not while taking chemo. I am wondering if any surgeons are using a ginger wash of the belly after all is taken out?? Her surgeon said he used a saline wash?? think I will ask that of the on line Doc.

Soon I will start my fourth cancer free year.  My last PSA test was normal, so I'm still good.  As for "How did I find out about ginger?" well I didn't.  It was just plain luck.  I did not know it could cure cancer back then.  I was just determined that I was going to unblock my blocked colon (maybe even if it could kill me in the process).

But now for some bad news.  Today while continuing my ginger research, I found out that gingerol the most researched and important anti-cancer chemical in ginger, is changed when cooked.  To me that means that ginger snaps, and most likely ginger tea and most other ginger foods are useless for treating cancer.  I even suspect that candied ginger is of little value.  So that means only ginger root powder and the alcohol extract of ginger root would be useful.  Eating hard woody pungent raw ginger root would be tough, and you must consume four times as much of the fresh root than the ginger root powder.  To be sure that the product is useful it would be best if it actually guaranteed that it had gingerol in it.

BCC,
Thank you and my heart goes out to you for your mother. Congratulations on ridding yourself of the prostrate c. invasion. Did the cat scan show that it disappeared?

I just had some ginger cookies. Does anyone live near Trader Joe's. Their triple ginger cookies are so good. I'm on chemo now so I give myself little treats. Since these are ginger I bought them! Have them with chai green tea. I usually don't consume sugar baked products.

My recipe for carrot juice with fresh ginger is on this site (way below) somewhere. It is soooooo good. I have it every day.

Months ago, I had abdominal pains near my bladder for a few weeks and complained about it to my doctor. She thought maybe it was scar tissues. I later realized it was the ginger I was consuming in the juice.

Simply Star,
Sorry your daughter is fighting this. It must be very hard for you. Can you tell me what the oncologist says. I'll approach mine later when I'm through with treatment. Thanks.

WOW  this is powerful stuff to read.  I think any one deciding to follow this should copy the instructions out and take it to their onoc. There seems to be too many serious side effects. My daughter is drinking the ginger tea twice a day.  I copied  it and will be taking it in Thursday for her check up.

I am not a doctor, so this is only based on my experience and what I have learned since my cure.  You should consult your oncologist.  I had previously been using ginger root powder in 500mg capsules for stomach upset.  But then tried it successfully at a higher than label dosage instead of anti-biotic.  When prostate cancer spread to and blocked my colon, I tried ginger.  I took up to six capsules, four times a day.  I was very lucky.  It worked!

With perfect hindsight I think now that the cancer may have been treated more gently, but not too gently.  Ginger at a high enough dosage kills cancer cells.  The trick is to not kill so many that your liver and kidneys are overloaded.  Also at high dosages ginger can cause some rather disturbing effects.

Cautions:
A small number of people are allergic to ginger.
Ginger should not be taken if
- currently being treated for cancer,
- currently taking anti-coagulant drugs,
- likely to interact with other medication,
- have kidney, liver, gall bladder, ulcers, lung disease,
- are not able to quickly swallow many large capsules, wash them down into your stomach, and keep them there,
- are pregnant or lactating,
- are bedridden,
- are unable to survive the flu,
- have heart rhythm  problems,
- don't have access to medical assistance and dialysis if required.

I Would:
- have help available.
- take the minimum effective dosage. ( This is more than four grams per day of ginger root powder for a 150 pound person.  But certainly not more than twelve grams per day. )
- take ginger for one to three days.
- take ginger for a shorter time or lower dosage if there is a lot of cancer tissue.  ( Killing too much cancer too fast can be dangerous.  But NO cancer will die if the dose is too low. )
- have a moderate to high humidity. ( At some points I experienced extreme lung irritation.  Don't allow the lungs to dry out.  Keep the mucus flowing. )
- drink lots of water. ( Flush the toxins from the dying cancer out of the body and keep the kidneys from getting overloaded. )
- rest as much as required.  Take it easy.
- stop taking the ginger if you have any dangerous side-effects. ( I have a bad heart, it fluttered, I stopped the ginger for a day, then started again at a lower dose. )
- take vitamins and minerals.  ( Killing cancer can be very stressful on the body. The body needs help. )
- repeat as required. ( One to two weeks later or not until you feel up to it. )

What is it like?
At a moderate dosage for a fairly healthy person, there may only be the feeling of a warm tummy.  After treatment there may be some mild nausea and weariness.  The more extreme the treatment and advanced the cancer the more severe the effects of the ginger treatment.  At the extreme there may be heart rhythm disturbance, nausea, liver irritation, burning feeling during urination, kidney failure, fever, chills, weakness, extreme lung irritation with a burning dry cough, and fatigue.  Basically, be reasonable, only push it to what you feel you can safely tolerate.

Afterwards:
Usually it only requires one to three treatments.  Ginger can be so gentle you may not feel that anything has happened.  Nausea is a good hint that cancer tissue has been killed.  There may be strange itching or other vague sensations inside the body where a tumour has been killed.  The body will heal naturally, but the cancer may have done some permanent damage that will not heal.  The healing may take weeks, months, or even a couple years.  Watch out for a return of symptoms.  Cancer often will send out cells around the body long before the first sign of cancer appears.  These pre-cancerous cells can lay dormant for years and are not affected by the ginger treatment.  So to catch any new cancer you should repeat the treatment every two years or sooner if required.
