Good news update!

Hi everyone,
My 6-month braiin MRI that I just had is clean!  Sooo good. What a relief. I was worried because everything just seems overwhelming this winter. I have a bit of depression I know but was worried it may be something in the brain.

And my oncologist just called. After two treatments of the Oxiplatin/FU the numbers went from 1600s to 900 something. This is so good because we get so resistant to chemo drugs. I just hope it continues to work now.

Thank you Jatoo if you read this. And if you do---how is Melody?

So this gives all our forum women hope on another chemo combination.

And also I think the the FU attitude is working!
Love, Helen

Thank you everyone for your wonderful encouragement. Now let's hope this FU/oxiplatin comtinues to work.

Gail-I just started the 4- hour regimin yesterday then was put on the pump/fanny pack yesterday afternoon. go back for two hours for other infusions with zofran, etc. then the FU pump is taken off Friday afternoon.

It is relatively easy except for stomach/ digestion/ gas issues and watching the constipation for the first 4 days. My diet has changed to bland foods.

Jatoo-I am so glad that Melody is doing well!
Helen-A long remission would be wonderful-that would have to be an act of God. Maybe I need to be hit by lightning. Just a little!
Kimchee - I like the baby elephant.
Everyone else-thank you I love you all-let's fight this and sometimes we do need the FU attitude. Helen

Dear Helen:

Congratulations!!! Prayers are always answered.

My wife has been feeling great relatively compared before the start of Oxaliplatin/5FU. At present, her CA 125 has been ranging from 24 to 31 (all normal) for the last 4-5 treatments since we began around September last year from a high CA 125 of more than 100. Her scan has also improved. And her bowel obstruction from partial to near complete has almost disappeared since she has now almost if not regular bowel movements.

Our treatment is every other week or every three weeks depending on her counts. It is a very easy chemo: no hair loss, hardly any nausea, except for lowering of platelets and WBC, but they are not drastic. We also deviated from the actual protocol by finishing the combo to just like two(2) hours without the 48 hours drip for 5FU. So infusion of the drugs is done in like two(2) hours.

Oxaliplatin, which is relatively new, is showing to be a very good replacement for Carboplatin and the harsher Cisplatin (see clinical trial results earlier). It is indeed a good drug for Platinum-resistant and refractory patients. Let's pray that more women will benefit from this regimen.

That is great news for you. I hope you continue to improve every day. It is always good to hear about a new chemo too. Are you having many side effects from it? Best of everything to our pioneer!!    Donna

Great news!  I am so glad this combo seems to be working for you.  May I ask a question about the 5FU?  Do you have it as an infusion like other chemos, or do you wear a pack that delivers it over a couple of days?  I am asking because I had chemo the other day with a man who was getting instructions on how to use the pack.  My doctor and I have also talked about this possibility if the Doxil doesn't work.

Again, congratulations!  I am praying this is the one!
