Granulosa cell tumor

Hello
I had a LAVH/BSO October 3, 2011 for fibroids.  At my follow up 4 weeks later my pathology came back  Granulosa Cell Tumor, Adult Type, 1.5 cm.  When my DR advised me to have a consult with a gyn/oncologist I was very shocked.  I asked her if it was benign and she said that's what the pathologist said.  I called the pathologist and asked him about the tumor.  He said it had clear borders and margins. The tubes, uterus and other ovary were unremarkable.   I asked if it was considered benign then and he said well yea but to see the oncologist.  I have read online that all granulosa tumors are always  malignant.  Is this true? Also, I read if the tumor is not ruptured it has a much better outcome.  The surgical report does not mention a rupture.  I see the oncologist next week but I am mentally having a breakdown.  Any info is greatly appreciated!  Thank you.

Hi there
a tiny granulosa cell tumor is probably of no significance. It is a tiny malignancy that is cured by surgical removal

seeing a gyn oncologist is a great idea for more information

in general we would check an estrogen level and inhibin level periodically over the years
best wishes

Thank you for your reply.  I have since had my appointment with an oncologist/gyn.  He wants me to have staging surgery next week.  He will remove 14 lymph nodes.
My question is with a 1.5 cm tumor with clear margins what are the odds of the lymph nodes coming back malignant?  Also, he said that IF the nodes come back malignant he wants to do chemo.  I have been reading chemo isn't a good choice with stage 1 granulosa cell tumors.  Thank you again.
