I did that and it helped some, but ironically, the thing that has helped the most (besides discontinuing most of my pain-related meds) was the two beers I had at my b-day party. No, I'm not kidding! I had last gone early Fri morning, and nothing until Sunday, had the two beers at my party (plus one other drink), and Monday morning, there we go! (And again Monday night, and again today... All smaller amounts, but things are finally starting to move, and I'm nearly two weeks post-op). I'd also been taking the generic version of Colace when things got to bad, cause it really seemed to help, just not immediately.
Try the Colace because you can take that daily for at least a week to help regulate, and honestly, sometimes you just need a good beer! :D

Place your thumb inside your vagina as high as it will go and run it hard against the rectal wall--it will be like running your thumb along someone spine. The stuff should feel hard and you may have to do it more than once to get the stuff out. Also, let all of your muscles "down there" relax and breathe deep and relaxed. Good luck.
Prune juice usually works well for me, so does a cup of coffee (go figure). Also, because of your fear of the pain of a bm, you could be holding it back (little kids have been known to do this and then they get impacted). Try to relax (even the breathing exercises you do when in labor help while trying to go). I hope this helps:-)

So sorry you are having to deal with this. It can be such a miserable feeling. I know that when I receive chemo I get extremely constipated. Normally I eat a very high fiber diet and drink prune juice - sometimes even that doesn't get things moving! My oncologist prescribed a laxative for me called Miralax. It works wonders - very gentle. It's a white powder that you mix with any liquid and drink. It dissolves completely and is tasteless, otherwise I would really have a problem taking it. Don't know what I would do without it - I've had to deal with a small bowel obstruction before and I don't want to go through that again!
Prune juice, prune juice and more prune juice! Actually, take one 8 0z glass of Welch's Prune nectar daily and you will get great results. It actually tastes really good, too. Trust me, I know....

not much better but thanks.I tried a kiddy enema it didnt work it just brought out what was in front of the blockage.I NEED RELIEF.Its stopping my healing process.I am walking slumped over again.
How do yo do this thing through the vergina I am willling to try any thing. How many fingers do you use and which one do you insert where?I am confused but more then willing to try.
Magnesium supplements work best for me. 500mg before bed, 500mg in the morning until bowels start working again, then back off to about 250mg a day. Hope this helps!
Okay, this may be a bit weird for some of you, but every woman has the ability to disembact themselves (bonus)---which is what I did every day I was constipated and it sure was better than taking the stool softeners which made what was behind the blockage liquid and very painful as it pressed toward the constipated bits. Just reach into your vagina (ah yes, I'm the midwife and I don't mind saying the V word :)) and run your thumb along your rectum--you'll feel the hard bits, push themdownward and out. You don't have to be very vigorous and if it hurts, of course don't do it, but this worked for me and the constipation only lasted for a few days as I was moving it out of my lower bowel on a daily basis. Hope this doesn't make you too squeemish.
How are you doing this morning?
I have been taking a stool softener in the morning and I take a suppository when necessary. I find that the suppository works within 10 minutes. I am going into week 3 and I am finding I am able to push more and more being careful not to strain. Check with your doctor and see what they say.
Check with your doctor first, but maybe aloe vera juice would help. Hang in there!!!
