HELP!! Now it's the breast

by Linda J, May 26, 2006 12:00AM
Feeling sorry for myself. Just had a mammogram Monday that was read as "normal". Saw a new gyne today for my yearly and he didn't like the cystic feel of my right breast. I've had fibrocystic breasts my whole life...in fact my latest mammogram read that there had been a decrease in cystic areas. He still wants me to see a breast specialist on Wed. I am so depressed. First it was the ovarian cyst surgery and then all the tests to rule out liver problems and now this. I've been crying all night and my nerves are shot. Have any of you had a normal mammogram and then found out you had cancer?

oh my gosh...cry and get it all out. But I think it's a good thing that the doc wants to be careful for you. I know that prob doesn't make you feel better but I hope a little prayer will...I'm sending one your way for a good outcome. good thoughts to you too. nanik

My mom was always sent for follow-up breast ultrasounds, which always showed normal cysts.  If they were painful she had them drained by a needle.  They were never cancerous.

I hated going from dr to dr when I had my ovarian cyst, I didn't want to be a patient, I wanted to be a healthy normal person!  But your dr is probably just being extra-careful.

I too suffer from cystic breasts.  I know you are scared but we are here for you and will be here no matter what.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

Hi, so sorry that you have to deal with something new but it sounds like you have a great doctor (better safe than sorry). It's wonderful that he would rather be sure that it is not breast cancer. :)

Everyone on my Dad's side of the family are, per my Mom "A cysty bunch" including me.  She warned me when I was very young not to get worried too much over thing like this.  None of them has ever been cancerous, so try to remain positive.

Try not to worry overly much. I, my mother, my grandmother, and my aunt have ALWAYS had lumps in our breasts that have sent us back for ultra-sounds after our doctors have looked at our mamograms and gone "hmmmm, we need to look more closely at this." My aunt even had to have a needle biopsy once. Yet, not one case of breast cancer has ever been diagnosed in our family. I agree with the other ladies -- your doctor is merely being super careful, and that's all to his credit. Things will be fine.

Hi again, you guys are amazing. You are truly the most caring supportive group of women I have ever encountered. My sons graduation was today, so I had no time to worry. I am trying to put things out of my mind as much as I can until I see the breast doc on Wednesday. Again, thanks for all the support!

Hey,

Congrats on your son's graduation!!  Mine will graduate on June 6th.

Does your son have any plans yet on what he is going to do?  College?  Tech school?  Job?
