HRT and ovarian cancer

by Chelan, May 20, 2003 12:00AM
I was diagonosed last year with a Stage 1 borderline ovca.  Because of my age (I'm 34) and no children they did not perform a hysterectomy at the time of my surgery.  I've now decided that it's time for the hysterectomy, but my specialist insists that I take HRT or he won't do the surgery.  Although he states I could safely take it for a couple of years I'm not comfortable doing that.  My understanding is that borderline ovca have a tendacy to be estogren receptive and because borderline ca are harder to treat I don't want to tempt fate.  Also, I have several aunts who've had Breast Cancer.  I noticed in a previous response that it was mentioned that HRT may be protective in ovarian cancer and I haven't heard that before - could you explain.  I'd like to make an informed decision about HRT and before I change specialists.
Thanks.
