It has been 2.5 years for me and the menopausal symptoms have NOT gone away or gotten any better....I have read that it can take up to 10 years. I am not taking any HRT. Some days are better then others, but, I deal with it and deal with the sleepless nights too.
HRT is a personal choice, not something that you have to take, it is not a matter of life and/or death. I am surprised at the comment your doctor has made.
There are many OTC remedies that many women take and swear by.
Daughters surgeon told her the effects of menopause after a total might depend on how close you were to going into it naturally. She was 49 and had already missed some periods, my mother and I both were finished with the change by 50.

Hi Silla,
I think I might have posted to you before, so you might have some of this information, but bear with me since it is hard to let an HRT post go by without wanting to add something to it.
Anyway, I copied the name and date of the post where we just finished a long discussion on the hormonal situation. I would check it out since sometimes posts get put in the archieves sooner than others. And, it is on page three of this forum. You might want to print it so you can read the information over. It is a lot to absorb.
Best of luck. It is such an individual decision, but in the interest of trying to help others who are going through the type of problems I went through, I thought I would post my info.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I have experienced the dizziness, too, and often this comes after an adjustment to my hormone doses. Dizziness can be a sign of a hormonal imbalance.
You are a crown jewel in my book, you posted all that info while I was gone, I missed it, copied it and will give to daughter tomorrow. she goes for another CA125 tomorrow to see if it raised any more. Thanks so much for all your knowledge.
Oh my, I wonder if I am a little "out of balance" since I almost cried when I read your post. I think I am tired, too. God forbid I actually cry without a sleep or hormonal reason, huh? :)
Thanks, though, for your kind words. I know I sound like a broken record at times, but to the new people, it might be the first time they have heard this. And, oh my, it took me months and months to find the answers for myself, so if I can offer guidance, much like you do for so many, well, then, I am happy to do that.
Oh, and you probably did not miss the post. I just added the last section about two days ago and it took forever to post (at least it did not show up on my computer for almost a day)....I think the length shocked the systems at MedHelp and my home computer!
We all know that Knowledge is power...so no matter what people decide to do regarding this issue, I do think it is helpful to understand all sides of the issue if possible.
Take care...and, hoping to hear wonderful news about Leslee next time you post info about her (hope I spelled her name correctly).
Thanks to you, Mary, I am, One With My Hormones!!! and very confident with what I use .... Seriously, I can't imagine what I would have done without your wise and gentle guidance. Now don't cry. LOL.

Thanks Mary for your advice, It has been a week since I stop taking HRT. Hot flashes are not bad, I had twice this week, may be less. I have some symptoms, my vision decreased (blurrie)though I don't know why. I read your post thanks, but I don't know where to start. Do I need to see a dr. for prescription,? are the Bios on the counter? How long have u been taking it and any side effects? Thanks agains Mary for your kind advice.
