Had surgery - diagnosis: severe adhesions

ndc
Hi  just to give you the update.  Had surgery on 2/11 and woke up feeling pretty awful.

Couldn't understand it because had recovered pretty much straight away after last lap.  As I was being discharged nurse told me that I had been under for 2 hours and that they had found lots of adhesions that they had not expected as I have not previously had abdominal surgery.

Seems that my two post partum infections have probably caused them.  Apparently my bowel was stuck to several other bits of me including bladder and uterus and my ovaries were all tied up too.

Saw a picture of the adhesions - they looked like large white stalagmites joining bits together.

Anyway, pumped full of morphine, which by the way made me soo sick and them discharged later that day.

Glad to be home, very sore shoulder!!!!  So on asilone, cocodamol and lasonil (for muscular problems).  So Ravenlady - cysts were benign and am a paid up member of the 99% club.  Have read adhesions can come back but for now, am hoping to have a bit of time with no gynae problems and wont cry everytime my boys try to cuddle me!!

Thanks for all your support ladies, if it hadn't been for you all I probably would have cancelled the surgery after the last ultrsound and am now so  glad I didn't.

To all those ladies out there wondering what to do, or if they are over-reacting take my advice please - if you have that feeling in your bones that something is not right do not let yourself be fobbed off - keep on fighting until you get an answer that satisfies you.

Keep smiling Dawn x

Thanks for that. Yep i get the same also when i bend over i get like a pinching/shooting pain up the left side of my bladder. The gyn has already said he thinks the bowel is stuck together, that along with the cysts ect ect. Says he can sort all that out at the same time. I have asked for ovary removal(family history)as i have had no menopausal symptoms for about 2 years now. Sorry if you already know all this. Thanks again it was a great help.

Yep - had all of those.

I believe it was because everything was 'glued' together and so when you empty your bladder it pulls and tugs whereas it should move freely.

I felt as though I was pregnant - full in the abdomen, achy ligament type of pain in the pelvis and a tugging sensation if I was running or picking up the children.

Nobody ever mentioned adhesions to me because of my lack of abdominal surgery but just goes to show...

From what I have read since, the rule of thumb is that if they are particularly troublesome they will do surgery on them and laser them away but that the process of removing them is a surgical procedure and can lead to a recurrence later on.

Have to say could not have carried on long term with the pain and discomfort so surgery definitely best option for me.  Luckily my surgeon is a minimal access specialist so could do it all with 4 cuts via laparoscopy but boy did I have some shoulder pain afterwards from the gas!!!  Day 4 and still on the cocodamol and asilone for the wind!!!

Just to say... these were not picked up on my ultrasound and I understand this is usual.  So if it were adhesions then surgery is the main tool for diagnosis, unfortunately.

Let me know how it goes.
