Haemorgic cyst post appendectomy and adhesion, please help

In Feb I was misdiagnosed with appendicitis, it was actually ovarian cyst. This surgery ended up causing severe inflamation because of the misdiagnosed ovary and because of that, the appendiceal stump tore and leaked infectious contents into my pelvis. The infection then spread into the ovary and caused the cyst to rupture, then I developed a pelvic abcess, peritonitis and peri- cecal abcess. A second surgery a few weeks later cleaned out the infection and sperated the adhesion and I had antibiotics. The ovary continued to go undiagnosed and turned into a heamorragic cyst. When i discontinued the antibiotics, I got sick and again the cyst ruptured and had to go back on antibiotics again. This keeps happening.

Now I have a complex heamorigic cyst that they are willing to do investigative laposcopy on. Problem is, I am pretty sure there is an ovarian/ bowel adhesion as well and from what i read, adhesions get worse if you keep seperating them. Im in unbarable pain though and going crazy with this, Im on leave from work and spend most days crying.I know there is still infection in the ovary but they cant tell forsure because I have a genetic problem with my white blood cells. Should I get surgery or is there another way becides blood work to tell if the cyst is infected? I cant afford to be disabled from surgery right now, but Ive been on ibuprofen for 2 months and in severe pain anyway. I guess Im scared because I almost died after the 2nd surgery. Any advice? It feels like there is a knife in my side and it pains all the way up my back and side and down my leg.

Hi fungirl, thanks for the reply and the offer for any help. I would be really interested to see how your recovery comes along since the adhesion aspect is very similar to mine. I really hope this feeling you have isnt any kind of re-growth. Please let me know how you do ok? I will keep you updated as well.

Ive actually read that rolling ball post somewhere else in my recent surfing... so thats you, Its a great idea actually and if i can ever get rid of this fluid/ infection I will definatly use it.

Unfortunatly, i dont think i have much choice but surgery because I think the adhesion is causing the ovary problem and its pretty much unbarable. I actually found my Dr's through research on adhesiolysis and trying to see which hospital has done the most trials and research on the topic. What are your opinions on membarane barriers, both the mesh and gel?

I am so sorry that you have such a hard decision to make.  I know you are scared about the surgery ( I too almost died last May of paratanitis after an ovary removal that was attached to my bladder and bowels), but you do not want that infection leaking into your body again. If your pain is that bad,then you need to get this taken care of.  Please keep us posted.  You are in my prayers.  Kasie

Hi susan, thanks for replying. Im 35, and although it would make me kind of sad to loose my ovaries, I'd rather have that then this kind of pain anyday.

Hey kid...you sound miserable.  What is your doctor's specialty?  If he is not a gyn/oncologist you should seek the advice of one asap......if he is you should find another gyn/oncologist. You do need to get this taken care of right away, but you already know that. You must see the right surgeon this time.....find a good gyn/oncologist.

Hi, diane, I did exactly that. I have been told I can get surgery as soon as Im ready but I just dont know which way to go. I guess I have no choice. I have the best gyn at the best hospital in my city and the best colorectal surgeon there as well. They will do it together incase of bowel adhesions. They said if the pain gets too severe just come to emerge and they will be paged to come in and do the surgery. Im having a lot of pain today and am considering going in, but I'm just scared and confused.

Sorry forgot to add, right sided, the size of the cyst was 4.5 cm on april 8th, complex, and overy is enlarged as well. The infection was cause by vancomycen succeptible enterococci ( from the bowel )and other mixed bacteria. Also my bowel is inflamed and distended with some fluid in pelvis.

Which way do I go with this?

Kasie, how did you do after the adhesion removal? Did it grow back. Im afraid of that as well because even during my "appendectomy" there were adhesions and then at the 2nd surgery the whole (cecum) was attached to the pelvic sidewall and it was full of large amounts of fibrin and pus... which means lots of scar tissue, its probably one big gluey mess down there.I suspect its attached to my ovary. I was never scared of Dr's or medicine to this extent before. How will I ever get up the nerve to do this.

I  also have a few very small follicule cysts on the other ovary, could this be because my right ovary is causing hormonal imbalance and not producing enough hormone to mature? They arent really causing any symptoms though.

When I had surgery 3 weeks ago to remove my last ovary, it was also attached to the bladder and bowels. Things have gone pretty well up until this past weekend.  I have started to feel as I did befor the cyst and ovary were removed (do not know how this could be,as I have nothing left??).  I have to go see my doctor tomorrow.  What has your doctor said about the adhesions?  It is a really tough decision for you, and if I can help in any way, please let me know.  Kasie

I apologize in advance for the brevity, but I promised myself that I would get ready for bed EARLY tonight.

But, if I can offer any hope, I am so happy to be able to do that.

Let's try to find my 90 page post (just kidding...kind of) on adhesions that I posted about a month ago. It is long since I go into detail as to how I found help for the horrible adhesions I had after my radical hysterectomy in 2000 for ovarian cancer. I found help by the grace of God and I have been able to get pain relief.

I would say that it is something I would not want to see you try to do at this point since you are having the problems with the cyst, the infections, the fluid, etc....I would be afraid of rupturing something. But, for later down the road, please know that just by rolling on a ball (Bodyrolling.com)...I think that is the website....for about twenty min. several times a year, I have been able to keep the horrific pain away...the pain of the adhesions. The blood gets to the bone in body rolling and breaks things up...unglues us, if you will.

I am hoping the info is in the archieves under General...on the this site for ovarian cancer. If we cannot find it, I can piece together the information for you.

You certainly have been through the wringer!  What an awful experience, and it seems to have no end!

How old are you?  Do you want children (or more children)? Have you considered just removing your ovaries to avoid this problem in the future?
