Hair Cut Day

Hair Cut Day

Today I reached a milestone!  I got my first official haircut since it has grown back after chemo. I cannot tell you how PROUD I felt to sit there with all the other "normal" people in the salon. As I looked around, I felt as though I wanted to tell everyone there why my hair was so straggly, why it was so white (I used to be blonde - with the help of some good coloring) and why I felt as though I deserved a walk down the the red carpet, an arm full of roses and a tiara on my head!  But nobody would understand the way my friends here do, so I hope you don't mind my sharing this with all of you. There IS life after chemo induced baldness.  I came home to a husband who told me he thought I looked as beautiful as I felt. What we warriors will do for a compliment!  Love, Judie :)

Hi Judie....I was so pleased to read your little story.. .it's been just so long since I've had the pleasure of going to the hairdressers, so it was great to have a little smile with you. I'm so happy for you, and that compliment from hubby.. that's worth a $1m. I hope all goes well for you, and you get to keep your hair forever... Happy hugs...Helen...

Your little story has made my day as well.  I am only 2 months out of chemo, but my hair started coming back after my 4th treatment, so it is getting there.  I have been contemplating when I will get my first PC haircut with great pleasure too.  My "new" color is also white (I'm 55) and it will stay that way--no more color for me, I will be grateful just to have hair in any color.  How long was your hair when you got it cut?  I'm not sure how much a hairdresser needs to work with.  Again, thanks for the smile. As a retired hair stylist, I'm celebrating with you!  I wish I could give you all a great head massage!  That sounded funny.  Well, if you were my client, I'd give you a little bouquet.

Hugs!

Congrats to you!  Funny how something so mundane for most people can be so emotional and such a milestone for others.  Makes you really think about life  and how many people don't appreciate what they have.  Hugs... Shannon

Thank you so much for smiling along with me; I'm glad I could help make that happen  Nothing is mundane or normal for me anymore...not even a haircut.  My hair, to answer your question, Paula, was about an 2 inches long (but not even) I looked like I walked into a blender for God's sake.  My cousin is my hair dresser, and when I went in yesterday SHE made ME laugh when she asked what I wanted to do with my hair.  I told her I wanted to look like Demi Moore, and she chuckled and said, "Hey read the sign....I do hair not miracles."  To which I said, "Start cutting, God will do the rest."  And no, I sure don't look like Demi Moore....but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....and I'm just glad I get to make HAIR appointments now, even if they are sandwiched in between oncologist's and surgeon's appointments. I have become so much more appreciative of the little things in life!  Love you guys, Judie :)

Oh Judie, this made me smile so big!  I would have loved to have seen the look on your face!  Hair is such a big part of all this, even though others say "it's just hair."  I am so glad you enjoyed your day, and God bless your husband for being such a support to you.  Thanks for sharing this.  We tend to overlook those good moments too much.  I love hearing stuff like this!  Congratulations and many hugs!!

Love,
Gail
