Hair Loss

I know this is pretty trivial to whine about in the grand scheme of things, but I just don't understand how it's possible....
I had my last round of chemo (taxol/carbo) on April 8th.  I was lucky enough to retain most of my eyebrows & eyelashes.  However, now all my hair is starting to grow back (stubble)....and my eyebrows are thinning and falling out, this week.  Is it even possible to start losing hair 6 weeks after treatment stopped?
Has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, it is possible.  No, it has not happened to me personally, but I have seen it with the Oncology patients I have taken care of.  I was an Oncology RN for 8 years in the USA.

I seen people's hair color, texture, etc. change after chemo.

I'm halfway through treatment and I was shocked to hear from people in my support group that they had hair loss at the end of  chemo.  My hair is completely gone from my head since the 1st treatment and my eyelashes started falling out after the 2nd one.  I just wanted to tell you that's it's okay to whine about it.  Yeah, it's great to be alive but it ***** to have to deal with the side effects.  Hair is a big one to me because it is the most outward sign that there's something wrong.  So whine about it, just don't get stuck there.  The second worse part of the hair loss is when people casually say "It'll grow back.  It's just hair!"  That's true but it's really easy for them to say when they have a full head of hair and don't wake up with eyelashes in their eyes! :-) So have your moments of whining or pity but then remind yourself how awesome and strong you are for getting through such a terrible thing.  You'll get through this too.  Here's to your new luxurious 'do and brows!

My eyebrows managed to not completely fall out during my first round of treatment, but like you, about a month after I finished, they fell out completely.  The good news is they grew back fairly quickly.  When my eyelashes started growing back, they looked like a mascara brush at first.  I found myself constantly rubbing my fingers across them.  It was strange, but maybe it was a way to deal with it.  Who knows??

I agree with pumpy...there is no shame in crying over hair loss!  When I got my diagnosis as I was still groggy from surgery, I asked my surgeon if my hair would fall out.  That's what made me cry, not the diagnosis!  Just when I was getting a nice head of hair again a year later, I went back on Taxol and lost it a second time.  Recurrence didn't upset me as much as the the thought of being bald again did.  So, don't feel bad for sharing that part of your struggle.  Most of us understand completely!

Best wishes to you, and congratulations on finishing treatment!
