Hair advice

When I started losing my hair I gave myself a really short buzz cut.  Now, a week and a half later, I have not lost all of my hair and what is left is irritating the heck out of my head.  I am unable to wear my wig and it makes sleeping and wearing hats uncomfortable.  I am ready to shave it off and wonder if that would make things worse?  Should I just let it grow back/fall off in due time?

Best, Libby

I guess I am vein but I didn't want to shave my hair off again, I am so tired of not having any hair.  So I cut it real short and used a Selsun Blue for sensitive hair and scalp and it seem to work for me.  Since I haven't had a lot of hair for months now I do like the little bit that shows when I wear a hat. I hope this helps for you.

As hard as it might seem to do, shave the rest of it off.  It IS uncomfortable to have that "stubble" left. I had a similar experience, and even lying on my pillow at night was annoying, too. I agree with Gail. I used shampoo and conditioner even though there was nothing to shampoo and condition at the time, and now that I am taking a maintenance treatment, my hair has started to grow back throughout this (go figure???), but it is soft and manageable. (Must have been all that shampoo and conditioner, eh?)  It's a hard thing to do, but before you know it, you will be finished with your treatments and your hair will grow back as lovely as ever. (I vowed I will never complain about a "bad hair day" again).  I hope you are doing well, and that you're handling your treatments just fine.  You hang in there; this will be behind you soon.  God Bless.  Judie :)

Just shave it off. I had mine shorn off right away. You might check into finding a hairdresser that works with cancer patients. We had one that shore me for free.

I actually treated my scalp just like my face - I used a gentle exfoliator every day and even lotioned it sometimes. I think my scalp appreciated it LOL! The hair grew back beautiful.

I feel for you...hang in there!

You might want to just go ahead and shave it all off.  It isn't going to grow while you are taking treatments, so for comfort's sake, if it were me, I'd shave it off.  I used a beard trimmer, of all things, to shave off what was left after I had the major cut done.  Something like that would be more comfortable than just using a razor.  Once it's all gone, don't forget to use lotion on your head, too.  I was surprised at how dry my scalp would get.  I continued to use shampoo in the shower vs. soap.  Maybe it was pschological to keep using shampoo, but it is less irritating than soap.  Sometimes, I even used conditioner.  Try some baby shampoo.  I found that was the least harshest thing of all.

Best wishes to you.  I hope and pray you are having success with your treatments!

Gail :)
