Has anyone heard of the chemo drug, Alimta?

Just curious if anyone has heard of the chemo drug Alimta. I am starting new chemo again tomorrow and my Dr has not decided on what to go with. He is making up his mind between Topotecan (which I have had before and it did absolutely nothing) or Alimta, which his nurse tells me is fairly new. Either one he decides on he is planning on using with Avastin.
I am not sure about Topo as when I was on it before my counts continued to rise the whole time. But I was on it alone. He is wondering if it might work better when combined with Avastin. I also am not sure about the Alimta as I have never heard of it. I did look it up on chemocare and it says it is normally used for mesothelioma and lung cancer. I am wondering if he is considering that since my last CT showed some fluid in my lungs.
Just wondering though. I will find out tomorrow and let you know what he decides. I will also ask about the Alimta.
In the mean time I just wondered if any of you had heard of it or been on it.

Chris - I have never heard of it....but, I wanted to just tell you that I am keeping everything crossed that whatever cocktail they give you gets rid of all the cancer cells.

I am sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
Love,
Pam

Chris ..

I've heard of it, but don't know much about it.  It's not that new as the drug reps visited with my former employers for quite a few years.

Good luck .. God Bless

Hi Chris,
I have a friend that is on this now.  Too soon to know if it's working, tho.  Her doc is from Duke and she had a consult at Carolina and they both suggested it.  She says it is manageable.
