Dear Dr. Goodman.
My mum, 48 year old, was diagnosed to have ca ovary stage 3 c in 2004. She underwent total abdominal
hysterectomyHysterectomy
Hysterectomy - series and bilateral salpingo ophrectomy followed by 6 cycles
taxol and
carboplatin. Her CA 125 dropped dramatically to about <10. She then was started on
taxol as maintenance every month for one year. 8 months later, her CA125 rose to 28 and she was restarted again on
taxol. Her CA125 stared to decrease while on treatment. In the last 2 months, her CA125 rose again from 14 to 21 and now it is 28. Do you advise to continue on
taxol, or taxol resistance has occurred and we need to start her on other chemotherapeutic agent? Thank you.
Nkhairy
Has your mother had any other studies such as a CT scan? Are we absolutely certain that the Ca 125 reflects cancer and not something else?
best wishes
