Help Understanding Ultrasound Report

by clarification, Jan 07, 2006 12:00AM
I am in my late 20's and I have recently been diagnosed with a "complex lesion measuring 2.3 x 4.0 x 2.9 cm in the left ovary with an echnogenic component with a fluid debris level" and the "right ovary contains a small debris containing cyst measuring 1.6 cm".  The report states that "the sizeable debris containing cyst in the left ovary - common cause for this appearance is a functional cyst containing internal hemorrhage".  I have no other abnormalities - "no other adnexal abnormality and no free fluid in the cul-de-sac and a uterus that is normal".

I have experienced absolutely no pain and my periods are normal. I was on birth control for 5 years and I got off the pill 6 months ago b/c my husband and I have been attempting to start a family.  We have not been successsful yet.

- Can I alter my nutritional intake to shrink these cysts?

- Due to the nature of the cysts having fluid debris does this mean they are growing?

- Does the results mean that I have a dermoid cyst?  If yes, does this mean I will absolutely have to have surgery?

- What does it mean by echnogenic component?

- Are the words "internal hemorrhage" really bad (b/c they sound bad)?

- Should I stop trying to get pregnant for the next 3 months b/c I shouldn't be pregnant when I have 2 cysts?
