Hi Oestrogen Levels

I am 38 years old.  I was sterilised in 2000. I have been previously advised that I suffer from PCOS.  Due to heavy periods in the past and PMS, my Doctor advised the Mirena coil around 2007.

I have recently begun to suffer with Night sweats.  I visited another GP at my surgery about this and following on from blood tests, he has identified I have a very high Oestrogen level.

I have been referred for a pelvic scan and I am currently awaiting my appointment.

I am just a little worried about what the origins of these high oestrogen levels as he did mention it could be either a cyst or an 'Oestrogen producing tumour' - which has quite frankly left me terrified!

if you have polycystic ovarian syndrome, that means that your are not ovulating regularly.This is the most common reason for a high estrogen.
other reasons include:
dietary - alot of soy and phytoestrogens
medication - estrogen products -pills and creams
obesity - alot of estrogen comes from fat cells

rare reasons include
-estrogen secreting ovarian tumors
-adrenal tumors
-liver disease such as cirrhosis. Estrogen is metabolized but the liver. So if the liver does not work, there is a alot of circulating estrogen
