Home from the hospital...

Just wanted to say thank you so much to all of you who left me messages and prayed for me while I was in the hospital this past week. I had my stent surgery last Sunday and the general anesthetic shut my system down so bad that, by Monday evening, I was rushed back in to emerg with a bowel obstruction. I can honestly tell you I have never been more scared or in pain in my entire life - ever. It happened so fast...I knew I was backed up but in a matter of hours, I was on my bathroom floor, vomitting with a 102 degree fever and shaking so bad it looked like I was having a seizure. They fast tracked me through emerg and within 40 minutes of us being there, I'd already had a CT scan, an x-ray and been hooked up to some pain killers. I was so dehydrated that the urine that was going into my nephrostomy bag resembled weak coffee....I would take a sip of water and vomit uncontrollably for about 10 minutes. They actually were going to put in an NG tube but told me if I could stop throwing up, they wouldn't have to do that. That was enough for me! By the next day, everything worked it's way out but because I was so dehydrated, my electrolytes got  out of whack -  all of my muscles, from the top of my scalp to the tip of my toes, were throbbing and aching. I literally looked like an old lady and couldn't get out of bed...they have me on magnesium to build everything back up and I'm feeling so much better.
I also had my nephrostomy tube changed while I was there and the doctor said it looked a little yucky, so I'm glad we took care of that. I came home with two types of antibiotics and I'm feeling a little better today. I'm really weak and tired but happy I'm home. They  wanted to keep me for the weekend, but it was my spouses birthday and I wanted to be there to celebrate it with him. As bad as my week was, I know he was totally overwhelmed by everything too. He has never seen me so sick before...
Anyways, hopefully that will be it for the drama for a while...I will try to book an appointment with the surgeon in Toronto and see him this Tuesday. Maybe I'll have some good news later this week...I hope so - I think I've earned it!
love Becky xx

I have been checking here and also your other site for updates and have been thinking constantly about you this week. You have been through so much this week and in the last few months.
I so hope you can make an appointment with your surgeon after missing the last one from being in hospital. I just wish that they will do the surgery to remove your uterus and that tumour there (the bleeding risk there is just so scary to me) and I hope they bite the bullet and do the surgery on your kidney. The damage, pain etc the tumours on your kidney just have to outway the risk of dropping down to 1 kidney. Afterall, if you have an infection (which has been an ongoing issue with you kidney) they couldn't give you chemo either.... No win situation but something has to give. There are many things wrong with the user pays based US health system, but it seems strange to me that in Canada you are so dependent on having a surgeon agree with giving it a try. I have all my fingers, toes, arms .......crossed for an surgeon appointment as well as positive thoughts etc for you to gain the healing and strength you need.

Do take good care of yourself. You went through a lot and you would need to take a good rest to recuperate.

It's so good to hear from you but what a rotten time. I want to use stronger language but you'll have to use your imagination. I'm sure you were thinking some pretty colorful things while you were going through it all.

Yes, now it's time to let your body rest and gain strength again. Wish I could give you a hug but tell your hubby he needs to deliver this cyber hug instead. (((you)))

Oh Becky...I am so sorry you had such a hard time. Those blockages seem to be very popular with we OVCA patients. I hope that you've had your quota for a lifetime.
Take care,
Teresa

OH Becky, I am so sorry for all of the **** you are going through.  You definately have more that your share of trials.  I can honestly say, that I don't think I know of very many people who could endure all that you do and still remain so positive.  Obviously we all have our weak moments, but you are always so inspiring.  I just want you to know that an inspiration you, and many others on this forum, are.  Love you girl and you are in my prayers.  Kasie
