Hormone treatment

Hormone treatment

Hi I was diagnosed with  cancer stage 4 in June 2006. They were not sure whether it was ovarian or endometrial. Did 6 months of adria, plat, and taxol chemo but cancer came back in my lung and I had to have a piece taken out. Cancer is now all over my diaphragm. Now I'm on hormone treatment 3 weeks progesterone and 1 week Tamoxifen. Last CAT was stable. Has anyone been on this - does it work? Is it just palliative?

I'm so happy that you're on an aggressive regimen!  I'm also on an aromatase inhibitor, in the Tamoxifen family.  The drug, called Aromasin, is currently in clinical trials for recurrences of ovarian cancer.  It's already used for breast cancer patients. I decided not to wait to find out the results; I started taking it already.

The inhibitors act in two different ways; some drugs keep estrogen from bonding to a tumor; others work to cut the estrogen production in our bodies and starve the tumor.

If all goes well, it should keep the cancer from progressing.  At best, it could slowly kill the buggers!  No trial results yet. But, please keep us informed about your progress.  We all need to know.  I wish you the very best.
