How do you know the state of your immune system?

by RAS50, Jan 06, 2007 12:00AM
A dumb question- but I am 3 months post-chemo and like many of you, especially SimplyStar- I have been doing lots of research to see what I can naturally do with nutrition, supplements, exercise, meditation, etc. to prevent reoccurrance.  Much of what I have researched focuses on strengthening the immune system.  How do I know for sure if my immune system is weak and then measure if it is getting stronger?  Is this simply the results of a CBC showing white blood cell count?  Thanks!  Rachael

Thanks, Diane.  I also have read a lot about vitamin C IV with positive results. For now, I am taking vitamin C supplements.  I will keep you in my prayers- good luck, my dear!

I am not sure how you know if your immune is down.  But I have been doing a lot of reading about high doses of Vitamin C infusions, that help build you immune system. I do know they are doing a study in University of Kansas, but the results are not ready yet.  But if you type in Vitamin C and Cancer lots of information come up.  I am looking into doing the vitamin C infusion along with my chemo this time because my recurrence has been going on for over 10 months now and no signs of it getting better only worse. My oncology feels that the my cancer is chemo resist and my insurance will not pay for Avastin.  So I am hoping between the weekly taxol and the vitamin C I will start to see an improvement.  I will keep you posted as I go though the treatments.  I do know this women with breast cancer who did the vitamin C treatments and chemo and now is in complete remission.  Last year at this time she was not given much hope.  The cancer had spread to her liver and brain. She said even her oncology said it was the vitamin C. Good Luck!  Diane

Eating yogurt with the good bacteria or taking a probiotic supplement is important to help colonize the good bacteria in your digestive tract, which is important to your immune system.

Thanks to everyone for your support and prayers.  But I am doing high doses of vitamin C 100 gams two a week.  So far for other people it has worked for they got result within 4 to 6 weeks.  So I am hoping it will work for me as well.  Plus I also take 3000mg to 5000mg of vitamin a day to keep the vitamin C in my system to keep  up my immune system. My thoughts and prayer are you too.  Diane
