I Went to ER and was turned away, What should I do, Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh folks, don't know what to do. I was drowsy, bleeding a lot, with clots and pain in my lower abdomen and was forced to go to ER.  A young Indian woman (DR or *****) was in the evening shift. (sorry for my languagge, but am pissed off )She was unprofessional, nasty....Guess what, she took my blood sample, gave me IVY. She said am not anemic, normal blood so said that she is going to send me home as she gets my lab (blood) result. She said go see GYN for treatment and I am ok to . She said Emergency don't take for long period bleeding, can u believe this??? what did she do to me? referral to GYN? what about the pain, drowsiness and continious bleeding? She was arrogant, didn't give me anything to help feel better. She just gave me a prescription of Birth controll pills to decrease the bleeding ???? and to releive the pain???? mind u this is just a prescription, didn't give me a single pill at that moment to help me feel better, she didn't want to admit me and she send me hope at 1 AM ???? ind u who want to be in the hospital at that time? unless u need to, I told her so, but she is not the type of Professinal/Dr to even listen. Basically, she just forced me to go home.
What Now!!!!
What should I do, it looks like the whole world is against me, who should I cry for help, this is so series, it been almost 2 month and nothing has been done.
Plus, just lost my job, due to a lot of absenteesim/lateness, kind of less responsibility (according to them), was angry and I yell to the boss, 'cause nobady understands what am going through. But, my health is first.
What's Next?

I have researched these options for free medicine and you are right they do help!!!  Also in every clinic there is a job called a Facilitator and it is also part of their job to guide you and help you with these Pharmacutical companies, they should be aware of many ways to help you. I always ask if they accept Volunteers at places that have helped me and at times when I feel good I go there once a week or so and help out.

HI,
I cannot begin to tell you how fortunate I feel to have little or no stress of medical insurance provided by WA state and now Medicare. I never in my wildest dreams ever thought at 43 this would all come crashing down. here in our state we pay really high taxes I think it is 4th highest in the nation. I live less than 10 miles form two refineries that provide alot of the gas to the west coast, yet our gas here in Bellingham is $3.27 a gallon. It is pretty ridiculous.. Anyway I am the first one in my family ever to seek Public assistance and because I own my home, I do have to pay some insurance through our state program, it is called a spendown.  I through the years had heard stories of how Public assistance was a rough and rocky road especially when single and no kids I thought it was only for parents and kids, so I was even more surprised at the quickness and thoughtfulness of these gals that helped me. I have even called their supervisors to thank them. I am sorry that others are having so much problems. We provide in our Community two big clinics for the Hipanic Population. They recruit Drs. and then offer to help pay off their student loan for them, hence they have really good Drs. there.Running out of space...Kathy

Find a non-profit lawyer. Legal aid, whatever. Your local Social Security office is required by law to provide a list of free legal aid. These people make it their business to help navigate disability law and state aid, for no fee. They operate pro-bono on their own time or are independently funded.

DHS routinely lies, lies, LIES to people to deny them benefits and medical coverage. Always remember -- these people may not be out to help you, no matter what they say. Take it into your own hands to do your own homework.

If you have a representative with you, you get much better treatment and more likely to get the assistance you get. DHS will often simply not tell you about programs that you are eligible for, even when you ask directly. (This I found out about years too late.)

Also, I don't know if you need prescriptions, but having no health insurance, you can often go directly to the pharmaceutical company and apply to get the drugs low cost or for free. It's true. I got a $3,000 a month prescription for free, and now have several others pending. Check each company website for instructions -- usually your doctor will have to fill out a form -- and I think there's another website called pparx.org that offers prescription assistance.

Lucky you...I am not racist at all nor in the slightest, but I have no insurance, and I cant get it through the state because I live in Arizona, and all of the illegal mexicans that come over to arizona get treated like royalty while us US citizens dont get anything, i was sitting in the DES office, and heard a lady say, if you want more money, have another child. I was in disbielief. So, what do I do? Any thoughts?

I was denied every kind of federal and state medical aid available even though no less than SEVEN doctors filled out paperwork verifying not only that I was too sick to work, but that it was further detriment to my health to continue to attempt to work. (Medical condition not related to obgyn issues). Social Security and Medicaid are BRUTAL to the young -- the average claim takes 3-5 years to win, and that is with an attorney.

You need a plan for how to pay your bills in the immediate meantime. Keep reading.

THERE IS HOPE THOUGH. Despite all the pending appeals, a local hospital and clinic that has a policy of treating all patients regardless of income always saw me -- both in the hospital and physician clinic -- and I continually filled out their paperwork updating my financial info -- and 100% of my office bills, lab work, and necessary tests were all written off. I was low enough income to qualify for food stamps, so I got all my medical care there for free. If you are now unemployed, you should be able to apply for food stamps with a speedy emergency application to be processed in 10 days or so. Most communities have a hospital and clinic that will see you, regardless. Look at the small signs that offer "financial assistance programs." Look for the small print on your bill that says "Having trouble paying your bill? Call this number." If there are no such not-so-prominent displays, don't be afraid to inquire. Keep asking what discount and assistance programs are offered for low-income patients. At first it is embarrassing... but, don't forget, we've been paying our taxes all these years too, and this is what it is for -- for when we need it. For when we get sick. Good luck.

I too was embarrased to be 43 with no medical insurance, but without the state helping me I do not know what would have happened. When you are diagnosed with OVCA (I am stage three) you automatically receive three years of Social Security, I did not even know about social security, I always thought it was for retired or Challenged persons so I was shocked to recieve it with no hassles, I only had one  appt. with them. I feel very fortunate that the Big guy was watching out for me and sent me the best people to help me. This was all iniated by my local DSHS and they even offered to come to the hospital or my home to sign papers. I do have to pay some of my medical bills but not enough to really to put me in the poor house more!

Did you mention the diagnosis of Cervical Cancer when you were in the ER?  If not, go back and tell them.  If you have the symptoms you say you have, there is no way in the world they would release you with no treatment if you have Cervical Cancer as you say you do.

It is good that at least in awful circumstances Social Security has the good sense to make "automatic" approvals. Unfortunately, though, even though for over two years I was unable to get out of bed, because I was quite young when I became ill, monthly payments are made based on your income and what you've paid into the system up until that point. I was young and had spent most of my twenties in college, then graduate school. My monthly benefit would have been $527 a month. Better than nothing, but I don't know how a person is supposed to live on that. Fortunately, my condition is improving and it looks like I'll able to work again.

Better to pursue all options at once, I think.

Go on your states HHS website and maybe you can download the forms you have to fill out. Bring  these things  and it will make it easier and quicker to get approved.  Rent receipt or House loan payment, An utility bill, ID, Social security card, and all of your pay stubs for the last couple of months, they may want your bank account statement too. Try to get their early.. I hope you have a better night. Get some rest you will need it for tomorrow, don't be ashamed to cry and tell them you are desperate!! I have been down this road....

I didn't want that last post to sound discouraging -- I hope that you have better luck with your case worker than I did, many people do, as I live in a state is poorly funded -- I just think it is wise to pursue many options at once, and I really do think the important thing to keep in mind is that all of us have been persistent, no matter our financial situation, and received the care we needed and found programs to pay for it. There are many options available for you. It just may take a bit of asking. All my best to you.

Silla it took me less than two hours, I went from er to DSHS and within hours had medical. I too was single and 43 and had no Insurance due to new job (weeks away from insuance). They treated me with the upmost respect, also if you worked you may qualify for Social Security, which is what I get. Do not call the State office, have someone take you, friend, relative, neighbor, you get more help if you go in person, I think.

Ok, you need to get to the dept. of labor and apply for medical benefits.  You will qualify, so there should be no problems.  From there go to gyn/onc.  You need to do these things.  What state are you in?  I will google info for you if I need to.  You need to take control now.  We will help, but you need to let us.

Now that you have lost your job,(so did I, always new jobs available)you should go down to your local Dept. of Social and Health Services and apply for Medical benefits and whatever else they may be able to help you with. Take your last pay stubs, ID, and Social Security Card and tell them you are too sick to work and need help. Are you Single ? If you qualify the help will begin immediatly. Also where live there is a low income medical group called Sea Mar Clinic. There is usally at least one low income clinic in each town. Try this and see what happens.....
