I don't know what to make of this.....

Hi- During a regular ultrasound while I was pregnant they detected a small mass on my right ovary.....they kept a watch on it my entire pregnancy and then a follow up this past April and again in July. On the transvaginal ultrasound it states The right ovary is mildly enlarged measuring 6.3x3.3x3.9cm Two cystic areas are now seen within it.The smaller one measures 2.1x2.1x1.7cm and may represent a dominant follicle. The larger one likely represents the cyst that was seen on the prior study. It has enlarged and is now 4.6x3.2x2.3cm. There is a mural nodule now present in this dominant cyst measuring 1.4x.9x.9cm and having an irregular shape with a questionable tiny calcification. No color doppler flow is seen within the mural nodule. There is some color Doppler flow along the margins of the cyst. A small amount of free fluid is seen adjacent to the right ovary. The impression is the right ovary has enlarged when compared to prior. It contains two cystic areas with the smaller one likely a dominant follicle. The dominant mass is now complex and has a mural nodule. It has increased significantly in size since prior study. Consideration to resection of this lesion is suggested since it may represent a neoplasm. My doctor has scheduled a diagnostic lap with my right ovary to be removed. Not until September 1. By the sounds of all what do you think. Can someone explain this to me please...Thank you in advance.... Sorry for the long

We all have been there and are going there. It's a fear like no other. Lots of us took anti-anxiety meds to get through the waiting period. I got some but didn't take it as I had someone who carried my emotional burden for me along with the great ladies here. Don't make me a hero for it though - I still have the scrip :) I can tell you that most cysts under 5 cm are benign and that benign cystadenomas can have a nodule. Apparently, mine wasn't even a nodule even though it looked like one on US -- sometimes the ultrasound visualizes things that can't be positively identified. Good to be on the conservative side though.

Don't be afraid to post, post, and post again here. We all share your fears and don't roll our eyes. We get it!!

Thanks!!!! I tried to post my question there, but it says there are only so many questions they can take each day. Oh well!! I'll try again tomorrow. I am having lower back pain, and my abdomen is so bloated I can barely button my pants. I know I just had a baby 4 months ago, but the weight is supposed to be coming off, Under the right part of my rib cage is a dull ache, I also keep getting a pain in my right shoulder, weird, I don't know if any of these symptoms is from the mass on my ovary or what....I am so scared....so so scared and I don't want to wait until Setember 1 for the surgery I want to know now what it is!!Have any of you gone through this too?

Neoplasm is a scary word for "new growth"  Meaning anything-benign or malignant

errr, I meant IT sounds like such an ugly word.  God am I tired today and it will get worse when I end up spending the next 7 nights in a hotel room with three children then get to drive all three back from Massachusetts to VA while they squabble and ask "Are we there yet?" twelve trillion times!!!!

I was also told mine might represent a neoplasm. I think that's standard fare on an ultrasound report on anything they can't truly identify, which is most.

Have the lap done. I'll tell you, I had EXACTLY what you did, almost the same size, mural nodule, no blood flow to the nodule, calcification etc. Mine was a BENIGN cystadenoma on the fallopian tube. These can occur on the ovary as well. They thought mine was but it turned out it was on the tube. I do know my surgeon friend told me that no blood flow into the nodule (the part where the cancer would most likely be if there was any) is very good as cancer needs to be fed. If the cyst is in your ovary or having off by a stalk, it makes some sense that there would be blood flow around it since the ovary is fed by blood to keep it alive.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Linda- Where on the medical side is the forum?

I think what your doctor is suggesting is correct. Since the area of concern has gotten somewhat larger, it is probably best not to wait and watch any longer.

You might want to post your question on the medical side of this forum. Keep us posted and good luck!
