I need help please!

I am new here. I am writing because two years ago I had a benign serous cystadenoma removed. It was the scariest thing atht ever happened to me as there was surgical complications, as well as my fear that it would be cancer. I have a family history and one aunt had a borderline mucinous cystadenoma at age 19, and I was 20. I am now 22.

Two weeks ago I began having similar symptoms and went back to my gyn and got an ultrasound. I have a 4cm complex cyst that is hemmorhaging (bleeding within it). She is going with the watch and wait route, but I would rather have surgery ASAP because I am scared it is malignant.

Could a serous cystdenoma-fibroma (labelled as a fibroma also) come back in only two years? I have read a recoccurence is very uncommon. Does having a neoplasm in the past make it more likely to get cancer in the future? I feel scared and do not know where to turn. Any advice?

Hmmm... good to know about the delayed menses thing... I was due to have my period on the 7th and it's now the 10th. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it came out negative... so I'm thinking my cysts have something to do with it...?
Good info...

They usually do not remove cysts until they reach the 5cm mark.

Welcome to the site.  Just a reminder that 99% of ovarian cysts are benign.  I just had 2 softball sized dermoids removed 12/21/05 and now find myself with another ovarian cyst.  I go for another tvus on 4/17, but my dr. is sure that it won't resolve and will have to be removed. As you can see, yes they can grow back.  You are in good company and there are many women here who will give you great advise.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.  Godspeed

I also have cysts and would like mine removed but they wont. I would recommend that because of your previous experience that I would have the cyst removed. I would be very addiment with my Dr. they dont always know what is best for you. You know your body and you know how you feel. If it is safe to remove I would do so.

I am fairly new to all this, I was just diagnosed with my cyst a few weeks ago.

But, until some of the more experienced people get here, let me remind you that 99% of all cysts are benign... Just keep repeating that.

Also, there are many women on here who have had multiple trips down this path, with repeat benign growths.  I'll let them tell you their stories.  But try to breathe... The waiting is the hardest part, but statistics are definitely in your favor.

Thanks for the prompt replies. I did not realize that hemmorhagic cysts could grow really fast. My period is also late. could it be correlated?

I am also having some fears that my fisr benign cystadenoma was pathologized wrong, and that it was possibly cancer, and is now back. Is this likely?

Thank you very much. You are all very kind.

J,

You have the classical symptoms of a cyst that is interferring with the normal hormonal 'operations' of your ovary.  You have a missed or late menstrual cycle - this very thing is what led to the discovery of my own cyst in 2004.   You have the worries and "paranoid" thoughts - I had those as well, along with panic attacks, and  long before I even knew I  had a cyst.

No, it is not likely that you have some recurrence of a benign cyst.  It is more likely that you have a normal functional cyst that has failed to resolve properly, and has become hemorrhagic.

However, you should be certain that your doctor understands your concerns, your medical history, as well as your familial history.  And remember, it is your health in question here, so if you will feel better having a second opinion and that is an option available to you, then by all means get that second opinion!

Jvieweg,

I had cysts on both ovaries and one had ruptured, they were both different types of cyst but my periods were very irregular and I only found out through this site that cysts affect hormones because they can prevent you ovualting properley.

So please don't panic we are all here for you.
