If platinum resistant, is long term remission possible?

Is long term remission possible with other chemo drugs if a woman is platinum resistant to the first line of chemo?

Dear Rachael:

1. To answer your previous post re surgery, you can go to the archives under Dr. Goodman (medical side of this forum) and there you will see that 2nd look laparoscopy/laparotomy or cytoreduction improves prognosis.

2. You are the in same boat with my wife - platinum resistant.  She was diagnosed in June of 2005 and we are nearing two(2) years. But you very much know that recurrence is very high after the Taxol/Carbo first line. It is a question of making bridges. I was ignorant to this disease when we started - never heard of Avastin. Just heard today of radiofrequency oblation (ablation) which may work for you. I first thought of you when I read this mode of treatment.

3. There is also a list in the archives (medical side) of different varied drugs which one can use. Avastin (non chemo)alone has a lot of combinations. VEGF, Phenoxodiol are coming into the picture - non chemo. Tamoxifen, Arimedex, Herceptin, Etoposide, Thalidomide, Megace are treatment options. I have not even mentioned the chemo drugs of Doxil, Topotecan, Gemzar, Cisplatin, Weekly Taxol, etc.

I hope this helps.
