If you are platinum resistant.....

If you are platinum resistant.....

Does this mean chances are nothing else will work?

Theres a promising new drug in trials and probably a year or so away from being FDA approved.  But with this disease, who has the time to wait?

My mom was having great results with the taxol/carboplatin...but once the chemo stopped the numbers started climbing rapidly.

I think the next drug to be used is Doxil, but I also read only 1 out of 5 respond.

Is there anything else good out there? Women with this disease need a break.

Sorry for recent going ons..... I begin the Doxil tomorrow so I will let you know how that goes ? I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the Drug or the Trial info... don't want to wait a year if its something that works.. Hopefully I will be with the odds this time, it's mine and your Moms turn and everyone else who has this OVCA to get some good news on the Fight against OVCA. Hang in there Alan I know it's hard I have to watch my family go through this with me and at times it is heartbreaking because I love them all so much.:)

Hi Kathy,

I must sound so selfish...I have to be focused on my mom and not so much on how it impacts me.

Anyway, the drug is called Telcyta and its manufactured by Telik Industries.

From what I read,it sounds promising.  But even if my mom gets in the clinical trial...its no guarantee that she will get that drug.

What state are you in?  Maybethey are doing a study in your area.

Youre starting doxil tomorrow?  May I ask what treatments you have had so far? How long until it recurred.

Good luck tomorrowand keep fighting.

my mother was on carbop and it didn't seem to work so she's on Gemzar now. Not sure if that is good for now. She seems to be having some problems, but it's not chemo related so try that. It's just been approved by FDA. goodluck!!! what a horrible battle this is!

Dear Allan:

Let's pray for your mom.

Just to let you know that my wife was in the Telcyta clinical trial and I was glad that she was randomly chosen for Doxil. Her first Doxil treatment reduced her CA 125 from 300 to 36. It was normal after that until the sixth treatment last month with CA 125 of 11.

For more about Doxil go to the Archives and search anything under Sueg starting around June/06. Also go to the medical side of this forum and see my post on 09/12/06 and 9/21/06 with excellent answers from Dr. Goodman.

I hope all the best for your mom and also please take care of yourself.

Jatoo

Dear Kathy:

We'll pray that Doxil works for you.

Any chance you can give me a link to the posts?

Thank you for your help.

Dear Allan:

On the Ovarian Cancer Forum main page, click Browse Archives, then click Chemotheraphy, then around the middle you can see a subject: For SueG. You can start with that and backtrack or forward to see others re Doxil.

On the same main page, on top of Browse Archives is Ovarian Cancer Answers - this is the medical side of this forum. You can ask Dr. Goodman anything you want or go to the dates I gave you or any others that you feel will help your mom. Knowledge is power. It helps us to calm down.

All the best!

Diagnosed Sept 2003, had surgery staged at 3... 9 inital Carbo-taxol, 12 taxol maintence.... 6 months out ca125 started jumping 10 then 20 ect... 6 more carbo-taxol.... 2 months out back again, I have been able to stand not having treatments for the summer, just a few bad days, but pretty comfortable. I am yhaving symptons bad now, so I guess I will know if the Doxil works on me or not quite quickly, the taxol carbo would stop the symptons the next day.

Doxil with carbo did not work for me.  I have been on 3 different regimes, with a combination of 5 different chemo drugs.   I have not had any "clear" time, since I was 1st diagnosed with OVCA, stage III  13 months ago.  Today I started on Tamoxifen.  My best to all of you with Doxil, as I know for some it does work.    Careylyn
