I did have my ovary removed. Now I'm almost 2 weeks post op and doing great, you will recover fast too. The first week isn't fun, but hey, it is surgery. Stay strong, and I'm glad you'll be in the hospital four days, they turf us in the states as soon as they can, I only had one night in the hospital after a laparotomy. Oh well.
I predict that you will sail through this. Take good care of yourself.
This will be over before you know it. The pain after surgery is much more managable since you are in the hospital. They will probably give you a self administered pump too so that if you feel pain, you hit the button and get more pain meds. Sounds like your tumor is resting on a bunch of nerves. Soon, this will be gone and you will feel so much better. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Godspeed

Hi there, I'm 10 days post op after a laparotomy. I was to have a catheter for 24 hours but begged for it to be out after 12, and they did take it out. I was only in the hospital one night, two days.
I had no trouble going potty, it just took a lot of relaxation, and I would go frequently, but not emptying my bladder until about day 3. The bladder is a funny thing post surgery like this.
I still have pain, but only take Motrin and Tylenol. I needed the narcotics for three days, then was off them.
I try to get up and walk around, but I'm really not able to do much. I notice I can stand up straight today, and have been hunching in previous days because of the sore stomach.
unfortunately, they will probably put a cathiter(sp) in you during surgery. I had a tumor removed, and was in the hossy for 4 days...thats what they did. I wasnt able to move about that much. you will have BAD gas the next day, and be sure to cough ALOT, so you get get pnemonia(sp). they will tell you all of that though, umm..what else, they will make you walk around so you dont clot...And you wont have a bowel until a couple days, for gas tell them you want milk of magnesia. works great. umm thats about it. youll heal up in a week or so...I got my staples taken out right before I went home...make sure to bring a robe, your booty will hang out lol....I forgot mine. anyway, best of luck to you, and God is on your side
God Bless!
The pain when you wake up will hurt, I won't lie to you... But, they will have pain meds to give through your IV, which work MUCH faster than taking the orally. I was crying, and got a half dose of morphine, and like 30 seconds later... no pain. Moving will be uncomfortable for a few days... not so much the walking, but the getting up part. Your stomach and ab muscles are sore and swollen, and sitting up to get up is hard. I actually just laid flat and rolled off my bed, and then used the side to push myself standing so I didn't have to bend anything. By the third day, you're sore, but no longer feeling like a painful lump. Tea will help with the post-surgery gas, and heat will help now. I had some bad adhesions, and keeping heat on the area helped with the back and leg pain by loosening the muscles and softning the scar tissues.
Hang in there, and keep us posted!

I arrived at the hospital at 6 am for a 7:30am surgery.
I woke up in a lot of pain. I remember moaning a bit and they came and gave me the morphine drip and then it became tolerable.
I was only on the morphine drip for about 24 hours. Then I got percocet- there isnt much else they could give me since I am pregnant.
Honestly, the pain from the incision was NOTHING compared to the gas pains in my shoulders. That was unbearable. On day 2 in the hospital, I was able to very gingerly walk around (back and forth to the potty) and day 3 I was walking up and down the high risk prenatal wing.
You won't have a bowel movement for several days. The only reason I had one by my 3rd day was because they gave me an enema. It was painful to have a BM though- it was a relief. Also you will not be using a bed pain. I had a catheter in for a while, which sucked. Once they took it out, it was very difficult to urinate and it took me a long time to drain my bladder. My husband was in the room with me and he was amazed that I was peeing for literally almost 5 minutes straight!
Good luck and it's not really all that bad- seriously!!! :-)
Ok my view is this. You will be amazed at how good you feel until day 3 when they take away the pain machine. Do not be surprised if you then hit rock bottom but everyday afterwards gets slowly better. The gas pains are bloody awfull I wont lie but its all copable it really is. It is very hard to walk for the first few days and the cathater is a god send, the last thing you will want to do is go for a wee!

Glad to hear your operation is over with! I find the waiting and not knowing stressful! Did you have your ovary removed? Since it was only 10 days ago I imagine it would be hard for you to do anything they say it takes 4-6 weeks to heal. Thank you for the insite on what I will be in for -it is a month from today - I hope it goes fast, the pain has been bad the past week.God bless you and good luck!
