Increased Blood Flow

by Patty57, Sep 24, 2005 12:00AM
I have posted to this forum a couple of months ago and been watched over the summer for my ovarian cysts.

This Tuesday I go in for a laparoscopy to check a complex cyst.  I keep reading my lastest US report and it indicates increased blood flow. This time the US was done towards the end of my cycle whereas the previous ones were done right after I stopped bleeding.. and was wondering if that had anything to do with the result of the report.  I am 48 permenopausal with no symptoms.  Most the odds of not having cancer are on my side,  but I am quite scared that I will a stat and come up positive.

Micky..you have been a wonderful help on this forum. I hope I can come through this surgery with the good news that you were given.

I wasn't able to find your original post so I don't know how many ultrasounds you have had and if this is the first one that showed blood flow to the cyst.  Was your cyst diagnosed as complex from the beginning?  I too just recently got a diagnosis of complex cyst left ovary, no blood flow to any part of the cyst or no fluid in the belly.  I hope your appointment goes well on the 26th.  Did you have CA125 tests done in conjunction with your repeat ultrasounds?  I unde stand this test is not very reliable.

Keep me posted as to what the dr says on the 26th.  Best of luck!!

There does seem to be  a difference in the appearance of the ovarian masses at different times in the monthly cycle.  My doctor specifically scheduled my ultrasound to coincide with the end of my period, but I did not ask why.  Other women posting on this forum have indicated the same.  I know  ultrasounds can detect normal functional cysts (follicular cysts) that occur roughly mid-cycle.  I would think it logical that an endometrioma might show swelling or fresh bleeding during one's period;  that might make imaging less precise or perhaps more indicative of an endometrioma?  I am not a doctor, though, so that is really just a guess.
