I am not a doctor or a nurse... but I think that inflammatory cells are part of the body's normal immune system function.  These cells react to an injury, but they can react or over-react to any stimulation.  The inflammation can get out of control.  I think this same kind of reaction can be found in other parts of the body, like the lungs (like with types of asthma attacks.)  Anyway, maybe your body's immune system attacked your ovaries, causing the swelling??  I don't really know so I could be wrong.
