OVARIAN CANCER EXPERT FORUM
Is it Ovarian Cancer?

Is it Ovarian Cancer?

Good day, I am really concerned with my abdominal pain and with the reaction of the technician who did my transvaginal ultrasound in one of the best hospital in this country, im really need honest answers.
     Heres my History:
Appendectomy when i was 10
Ceasarian 3X (1998, 2001, 2003)
Subtotal Hysterectomy
Left Ooperectomy
NOW HERE IS THE LATEST TRANSVAGINAL ULTRASOUND I HAD 4 DAYS AGO
Transvaginal scan shows normal size cervix with nabothian cysts largest=1.0 X 0.9cm. The Uterine corpus and left ovary is surgically absent. The right ovary is normal in size with a unilocular cystic structure with irregular thickened border, measuring 1.5 X 1.4cm could be a Corpus luteum. (-) minimal free fluid the cul-de-sac.

Hi There
actually, that report sounds very normal. Sounds like you have a cyst of ovulation . Depending on your age, if you continue to have pain, other avenues should be explored such as looking at your bowels. If your are over 50, you should have a colonoscopy.

You should see your primary care doctor to review your symptoms and consider alternatives to a gyn condition

Hi!  I am posting in regrads to my mother-in-law.  She is 64 yrs old and recent nausea for the past month brought her in to see her pcp.  First, they suspected gallbladder and sent her home on Protonix(with no relief).  He ordered an ultrasound which was negative but showed possible liver abnormality.  Her bloodwork showed normal pancreatic and liver enzymes.  On Friday, she had a CT of the abdomen which revealed excessive abdominal fluid(i am guessing ascites)- her liver was fine.  Her pcp wants her back Monday for bloodwork to rule out ovarian cancer (i guess CA125).  Over this past week, she has become very tired and her stomach is distended.

In August, she saw her GYN for her yearly exam.  He did a preventative vaginal ultrasound which showed a very small cyst- nothing to worry about.  Her pap smear was normal.  She has a history of endometriosis and chronic hematuria.  She has a family history of colon cancer(mother & grandmother) but has regular colonoscopies- all have been normal.

Please offer any suggestions you may have.....we are all so worried!

I found out that in an Ultrasound that I had last week there was a cyst in the right ovary and a Calcium deposit in the other. I have been having pain in the left side and it is about a 7 at times and can be constant. My dr. said that it was NOT a concern.

Can this be Cancer of the Ovary and how can it be treated?

I have had a Hysterectomy by the way in 2007 and kept the Ovaries and never have been on any hormone pills.

Dear Margaret,
It sounds like your mother-in-law has had very good care in the past. Recently she has developed a new problem which is fluid in the abdomen. This is called ascites .
There are two big categories of ascites:
1. Transudative - this means the characteristic of the fluid are similar to serum. This kind of fluid occurs when there is a bcak up in the heart (congestive heart failure) or liver disease (such as cirrhosis)

2. Exudative - the fluid has either bacteria or inflammatory cells or cancer cells

This first step in sorting this out is to remove some fluid and analyze it. The fluid is analyzed for infection, cancer cells, and chemistries.

Of course with your mother, the first thing we all worry about is a cancer.  With her normal liver tests and I assume normal general health, liver or heart disease is less likely.  And the normal ultrasound in August documents that this fluid is a new process.

Please let us know what her doctor finds.

best wishes

Dear Tmarie,

If you are having pain and are having cysts on your ovaries, you should ask your doctor about looking at the ovaries by laparoscopy. You should also think with your doctor about the pros and cons of removing the ovaries.  Most ovarina cysts are benign but some can cause pain. Pain can also be due to adhesions from your other surgery.

It is quite possible that your pain is completely unrelated (bowel, bladder, stress fracture, musculo-skeletal) and it is important for you and your doctor to look at the big picture of your pain and rule out other possibilities

What is it when you have an enlarged uterus? I was told I have an enlarged uterus and I don't know what it means. What is the cure for it or what do they do for it?

Good day to you, thank you for answering my question, but still I have severe lower abdominal pain and lower back pain. I'm also worried when you said on looking in my bowels. ill post here two of my not so old abdominal and transvaginal ultrasound.
Also I forgot to inform you the reason of my sub total hysterectomy, well the doctors here said that I had Placenta Previa Accreta, and in this operation I had 11 bags of blood for transfusion and went to cardiac arrest, ( clinically dead for 2 minutes). They said that they need to fix my bladder. Then all my pain started after 5 months afetr this operation.
Now I'm Epileptic with tonic clonic siezure then my left ovary with a small cysts twisted then ruptured. Now, the pain is really becoming so severe. I'm having 2-3 heart burns a day, Im constipated, I have unbearable headache, sometimes very few spoting. Then the last transvaginal ultrasound came. (The one I have writen to you first).
Now ill post my 2 past ultrasounds.
     This was done last 10/07/2006
THE LIVER SHOWS A HYPERECHOIC APPEARANCE. IT IS MEASURING ABOUT 17cm. AT THE MIDCLAVICULAR LINE. NO FOCAL LESIONS ARE SEEN..
THE RIGHT OVARY IS MAINLY OCCUPIED BY A ROUNDED ANECHOIC STRUCTURE MEASURING OF ABOUT 4.1cm.
impression:
-MODERATE HEPATOMEGALY, WITH ECHOTEXTUAL FINDINGS CONSISTENT WITH FATTY INFILTRATION.
then this is my 2nd ultrasound findings:  DATED 08/17/2007   ill just put the impression
-CONSIDER PYELONEPHRITIS OF THE RIGHT KIDNEY.
-PRESENCE OF SIGNIFICANT URINARY BLADDER RETENTION OF URINE. CONSIDER CYSTITIS.

now im worried with the corpus luteum and the free fluid in the cul-de-sac

Dear Anghel,
wow! You have been through so much.  You need a doctor who sees you frequently and follow you over time.  You should take your ultrasound reports with you and go over them carefully with your doctor to decide about intervention for kidney infection and so forth.

I am not sure that the gyn piece of this is the most important.

Thank you for your time. I am a 28 year old, mother of two children and in basic good health that I know of.   I have been having a dull achy feeling in my lower left abdomen for about 2 weeks now.  Diverticulitis runs in my family, but I was found negative for that.  Urine was tested--negative for a bladder infection.  Other symptoms include a lot of bloating, soreness in my genital area, a lot of gas, and also making my left leg down into my thighs sore.  I have had an ultra sound done as well and the doctor says everything is OK.  I was just wondering what to do next?  Any suggestions?  Thanks,  Jessica

Thank you again for having time to answer me. What kind of doctor should I go to? are my symptoms dangerous? Should I need to go to the doctor right away? Because I live far away from the doctors. Thank you
