Is it the colposcopy or my period?

I had my colposcopy done on Thursday and started my period on Saturday.  It is Monday and I have lost more blood in the past few days than I ever have in a period lasting 5 days.  In a period of 20 minutes I bleed through a heavy maxi pad and am in a lot of pain.  My doctor said that I would have bleeding.  But this is also my period.  I don't know whether I should take this into concern or not because I have never bleed this much blood in my entire life.  Is it from the colposcopy or my period?  Or both?

Yes, this is a concern. Some spotting is normal following colposcopy, not heavy bleeding as you describe. It may be just a heavy bad period, but you should notify your doctor ASAP. My 17 yr old had a colposcopy a couple weeks ago and had no pain or any bleeding. I realize all cases are different, but it warrants looking into. A phone call can't hurt. I wish you the best.
